Guy In Shades

I wear my sunglasses at night

So I can, so I can

Forget my name while you collect your claim

And I wear my sunglasses at night

So I can, so I can

See the light that's right before my eyes.

He wore his sunglasses as a defense mechanism. They were a barrier, just like his cynicism. They kept the horrors at bay. They kept his co-workers away. They kept his friends from asking questions. But they did more than shield him from the things he saw everyday. They hid the feelings he wore on the surface from the one he wanted to see them most.

She had never looked at him as anything other than a co-worker and an occasional friend. If he were honest with himself, he would even say she was slightly afraid of him. She could understand Elliot's righteous rage, and Fin's quietly bubbling anger that begged for retribution. But he was different. He was unpredictable. One moment he could be gentle, the next cynical, then turn around and be in a rage. He knew he scared all of them because they never really knew what would set him off. He even scared himself sometimes. Another reason to wear his sunglasses at all times.

But he wanted her to see past everything. He wanted her to get past his defenses and see how lonely he was. He wanted her to tear down his walls, so she could see that he would do anything for her. But until she could get past the mask he wore, they wouldn't stand a chance. He needed her to stake a claim on him. He wanted to tell her that she was his light in a dark world.

She watched him from the corner of her eye. She knew when he was watching her. She could feel it. She liked it. He had a mystery about him that appealed to her curiosity. There was a hint of danger too. It scared her a little, but it also gave her a thrill in a way that she'd never felt before. She wanted to get him alone and remove his glasses, so that she could look him in the eye when she staked her claim on his lips and on his heart. She wanted to stop the charade and tell him that they were made for each other, but she wasn't sure how. She liked being around him because she could be herself.

Don't switch the blade

On the guy in shades, oh-no

Don't masquerade

With the guy in shades, oh-no

They were the last two in the squad room. She asked him if he wanted anything from the vending machine. He said no, but followed her anyway. He leaned on the Coke machine behind her while she perused the selection of snacks. He was tired of waiting, but he wanted her to make the first move. She decided she didn't want really want food and turned to face what she did really want. Something in her screamed: Now! She invaded his personal space and removed his glasses. They dangled from her fingertips as she pressed her lips to his. He reacted instantly, deepening the kiss, getting lost in her taste. They pulled apart a moment later and returned to their desks to gather their things and head home. Perhaps he wouldn't have to wear his sunglasses all the time after all.

I can't believe it

Don't be afraid

Of the guy in shades, oh-no

It kinda scared you

Cause you got it made

With the guy in shades, oh-no
