Summary: Crowley Eusford knew humans were just a means of survival for his kind. They were disposable and weak. But for some reason, in his eyes, she was different from the rest. Or maybe he just wanted to convince himself that this was the case, to justify the effect this human girl was having on him.

"You humans," Crowley said thoughtfully, amused.
One of the Horsemen of the Apocalypse had been chasing a human child for some time now. For the most part, he was utterly disinterested. Although he would concede that he despised the Horsemen. Humans were such weak and fragile prey, it was hardly fair game.
And it was because they had no chance, the almost sadistic futility of their existence apart from as a livestock supply to replenish the often insatiable thirst of vampires, Crowley hardly killed humans.
He couldn't fathom why it would bother him at all if this Horseman was about to kill another human child out of many hundreds of thousands of listless dead, as it was wont to.
It wasn't that it genuinely bothered him—his heart had become as cold as ice centuries ago, both literally and figuratively—it was just that he really had been watching her fleeing for her pathetic life for some time now.
From where he sat in his neat study in Nagoya City Hall, Crowley could see the scene playing out several miles away thanks to his potent progenitor eyesight.
He had long ago abandoned his boring novel about a forbidden romance between a pathetic bloodsucker and a naive livestock woman. The plot had started to get predictable once he realised, with a roll of his red eyes, that the bloodsucker was merely faking his affections for the human girl and would eventually end her life once he indulged in too much of her unconditional blood.
Getting up from his seat, Crowley placed the novel back into its rightful place on the bookshelf with a long sigh. Sometimes, living for eternity with no purpose and effectively no emotions was, well, depressing.
It's your lucky day, human. Crowley thought, smiling bemusedly as he watched the Horseman grab her small body for a second, her life probably flashing before her eyes as she thought she was about to die.
Distance and time was not a problem for him. He was instantly by her side, scooping up her shaking body in one arm and slashing the unlucky Horseman out of existence with one simple sword swing.
Now Crowley looked down into two dark, tear-filled eyes. This livestock girl had dark skin and short, choppy ebony hair almost like a raccoon. She was dressed in rags and barefooted. And yet she felt so warm.
Well, I've just saved a livestock for the first time... do I get a trophy for that or am I just insane?
Scratching his maroon and black hair sheepishly—he hadn't thought through what exactly he'd do after saving the girl—Crowley took her to a safer part of Nagoya and gently dropped her to the ground.
The human girl, no older than seven, was still staring at him but with a different expression this time: awe.
She probably couldn't comprehend why a vampire—a progenitor at that, although unbeknownst to her—would save her life when he should be the one taking it.
"Don't make your rescue go to waste now, little one. You have to run away before another one of those creatures comes to eat you." He said, laughing comically.
"Thank you." She managed weakly, wobbly standing up on two small feet and nervously digging her toes into the debris on the ground.
"It appears you can still walk. Good."
Crowley's expression became wistful as he paused, looking to the left with his ear pointing out alertly.
"I sense some humans nearby. Find them... and live." He finished, nodding sagely.
Well, that's my job done.
Crowley turned to leave and was about to disappear completely when he felt two small warm arms wrap around his leg. He looked down to see the human girl sobbing uncontrollably as she gripped even tighter onto him, although he barely felt it at all.
"Don't go! Please take me with you! I'm scared to g-go alone..."
Crowley scratched his head, inexperienced in how to handle a situation like this... Why did he just have to go and get himself involved in a totally avoidable and inconvenient situation?
His voice become serious. "You know how exceptionally dangerous it is to get close to a vampire like you are now, right girl?"
Before she could answer, Crowley keeled to her level.
And flicked her in the forehead, with enough force to effectively knock her out cold without killing her.
The girl collapsed into his arms and Crowley promptly shot off with her in the direction he'd sensed the humans, his mind already made up. He'd now taken an interest in this livestock girl and would hate to see what would become of her if she got taken in the wrong hands.
Vampire hands.
Crowley had seen the child camps where the vampires kept them like prisoners.
Ah, humans!
The devastated landscape had changed ever so slightly. Now they were in a forest setting. The group of humans he had sensed earlier were here and appeared to be about to leave.
They were Imperial Demon Army soldiers. Low ranked. He could almost smell their low skill and inexperience.
Emerging grandly out of the trees with the little girl sprawled limply in his arms, Crowley flashed them all a stunning smile.
"Yo, humans! Take care of this girl." Crowley said, transferring her into the frightened arms of the nearest female soldier. "If you don't, I'll have fun ripping all your hearts out."
Crowley gave the unconscious girl one last smirk before vanishing from sight before the soldiers could react.
Not long later, Crowley was back in his study in Nagoya City Hall, deciding on what he should read next. But before he divulged in another cliché fiction book, he wondered absentmindedly whether he'd meet that girl again one day.
We'll have to just wait and see, huh?
