Disclaimer: I obviously do not own Harry Potter, too bad though. These wonderful characters belong to J.K. Rowling and Warner Brother Inc.

Angel of Mercy

One would be surprised at how quickly a dance could turn from an exciting, spectacular event to a horrible, depressing nightmare.

I sat alone amongst my fellow wallflowers, trying to look like I was having a good time. So my date ditched me? So my best friend was going with some other girl? So what? I'm tough; I can take it. Those words sounded just as unconvincing in my head as they did aloud.

Slowly but surely, I was breaking down. "Twenty more minutes and, it'll all be over," I kept repeating to myself. Counting down every minute, each second slower than the one before. But then came my angel of mercy.

Best are really great when you think about them, I thought.

He sauntered over, trying to look cool, a façade I saw right through. And like the perfect gentleman he wasn't, he extended his hand and asked, "May I have the pleasure of this dance, Lily, my flower?"

His chivalry was so uncharacteristic that I almost laughed. But I chose rather to play along. "Of course, kind sir."

He led me to the dance floor and awkwardly put his arms around me. As much as I hate to admit it, the tough girl melted.

Cheesy as it sounds, I got lost in his eyes. They always had that kind of affect on me. My knees shook slightly when he smiled and my stomach filled with butterflies when his grip tightened. I never wanted this moment to end.

I hadn't a clue as to how long we had danced. I was in my own little world where only we existed, floating on a cloud high above the world with nothing but the music to distract us.

He pulled me closer as the song ended. I was suddenly snapped out of my reverie when he started leaning in. It was like slow motion until I could feel his breath tickling my nose. And then he placed one feathery light kiss on my lips. It was over just a quickly as it had begun, but at least he had the good grace to blush when the catcalls began. I just smiled and ruffled his messy hair, "Oh, James."

Best friends are really great when you think about them. But it's when they turn into angels of mercy that you have to love them.

A.N.: So, was it that bad? Please Review.if you don't well, then.there isn't much I can really do, but then again you never know!
