"Dad, how did you and mom fall in love?"
At those words, Wheatley visibly gulped. He and Chell had been through a lot together raising Sophie: her possible robot-ness (Wheatley didn't care what Chell said, it could still happen), her education, explaining that no, she couldn't just beat the everloving science out of anyone who crossed her, but nothing had prepared him for this.
"That's a- that's a long story sweetheart, why don't you ask your mother?"
"Ask me what?" Chell asked as she walked into the kitchen.
"How you and dad met."
gulp
Sophie watched in confusion as her parents locked eyes, engaging in a silent argument.
"You tell her.
"No, you tell her."
"Why does this have to be my job?"
"Because I have to handle the other awkward conversation!"
"How are we conveying this just by staring?"
"I don't know!"
Wheatley sighed in frustration. How on earth was he supposed to explain the convoluted, emotional and occasionally murder-y story of his romance with Chell to a six year old? "Well, uh, we met at work. She was the...um, unpaid intern, and I was her supervisor. Yeah both dead end jobs, very boring. So, um, we decided to try to get the boss, big scary boss lady, we decided to try and get her fired."
Chell nodded, "so far so good"
"So we went and caused a bunch of chaos, you know, sabotage the printers, break the, um, coffee machine. And then blame it on Her, the boss. It worked, she got fired, and I took over her job."
"But, aaahh, the power went to my head. I started acting like a real jerk, decided your mum worked for me now. I... wouldn't let her leave, didn't care if she got hurt, I was awful to her.
So, Chell managed to get me fired, the boss lady got her job back, and I left town. I never thought I'd see Chell again."
"When I came back, years later. She uh, wasn't too happy with me, but she gave me a chance, and eventually, she forgave me. The End."
Chell smiled, Wheatley had actually done a pretty good job. And best of all, he hadn't slipped up and said anything-
"And- and there were absolutly no mashy spike plates involved whatsoever."
-stupid.
End
