Danse Macabre
Red.
Red swirling around in blue.
Blood mixed with water.
She finds this amusing. The other human has his eyes closed, unable to look any longer. The girl was staring in fascination, watching the bright red swirl into the pale blue, changing the pure water.
The boy shook the girl's shoulder, wanting to snap the child out of her trance. I hissed warningly and the boy steps away, surprised. I want to let the girl see it. I want her to see how the world is like. Cold, uncaring and cruel.
The girl stroked the cold cheek of the corpse gently, letting the crimson blood to her fingers. She examines it, enthralled by the color and the texture, watching it slide effortlessly down her white arm, staining her.
The boy attempts to distance the girl from the blood again and this time I gave him a warning scratch. Cradling his injured arm, the boy tries to talk the girl out of it, instead of coming closer.
'He's dead…'
'Kairi, he's gone.'
The girl paid no attention to the boy, staring at the body with a mixture of fear and reverence. The corpse looked like it was still sleeping; like its soul still resided in the now empty body except for several wounds on the body, the most noticeable one a large gash across the corpse chest.
The work of another of her kind…a human.
It began to rain…like tears from the sky, washing the body of its blood. I went to the corpse and placed a paw on it, calling on to the girl.
This is how your kind treats their kin.
This is how your kind deals with the unwanted.
The child's eyes wondered to me and her pale arms picked me up, stroking me as her wide eyes watched as the rain pelted on the body of her beloved. The boy beside her slowly came closer to her, stopping inches away from her, right where my claws couldn't reach his skin.
'Kairi.'
'Kairi, I'll go tell everyone…'
'Stay here okay?'
'I'll go tell---'
'I'll go tell everyone that Sora…'

Selphie watches.
Selphie watches as Kairi strokes the black cat.
Selphie watches as Kairi strokes the black cat, her eyes far of in the distant.
There is nothing she could do; there is nothing Riku could do; there is nothing anyone could do but watch.
So she watches.
Selphie watches in fascination, fear, sadness and anger.
There is nothing anyone here could do to help her friend.
The only one who could is far away…in another place, another world.
The only one who could is the only one that isn't here.
Selphie turns her gaze to the cat, its green eyes staring lazily at her, daring her to come nearer to its master.
"Its name."
Selphie turns to Kairi in surprise as the red head spoke for the first time in months, her lips stretched into a thin smile.
"I decided its name."
Selphie bites her lower lip…unsure if she could answer. But she does…because she wants to. She does because she's curious.
"What's its name?"
Kairi's smile widens and the cat purrs with pleasure.
"Sora."

Notes:
I was in a very depressed state a few days ago. Partly…it's because of school starting again and because I was listening to very depressing music. Anyways, I felt like writing in my fit of music/school induced depression and came out with this little monster. The title translates to 'The Dance of Death' which has nothing to do with this story...anyways, enjoy
