SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
He was there before her, alive and well, and a little put off. Colonel Samantha Carter felt like dieing. This
Jack O'Neill wasn't her Jack, but damnit it was close, the shock and denial of his death still fresh on her
mind. Her chest was tight almost too tight to breathe.
She had learned from their brief conversation that his son was alive, so it was possible that he was still
married to Sarah. Sam felt she had to know more. He left the room before she had the chance to ask.
Hours passed, food was brought to them by a young Captain. Sam Couldn't stand it she had to see Jack
again. "Captain," she smiled sweetly at the officer setting down the meager trays of food. "Do you think
you could let Gen….Colonel O'Neill know that I would like to speak to him alone?"
"I will let him know, ma'am." The Navy officer lingered longer then necessary to stare at Sam, clearly
astonished that the dead astronaut was standing in front of him smiling. Her expression faltered slightly
under his awe. She felt as though she were on display. He must have noticed her unease and swiftly
countered to the hall.
"Sam?" Daniel whispered to her still form. She didn't respond. "Sam?" This time he sounded a little more
urgent.
She turned to look at him. "Daniel, I have to see him again." She found her a seat next to Cam.
"Don't do this please." Daniel's features clearly etched in concern for his friend's well being.
"Do what?" Cameron Mitchell was obviously lost. They didn't answer. They both merely looked at their
laps ignoring his question all together.
Moments passed. Sam shot from her seat. "God! I can't be in this room any longer. I feel like I'm going
to suffocate!" She started pulling at her shirt collar, pacing the tiny room. Her teammates looked to each
other at a loss of what to do.
"I can't, I can't, I can't." She was chanting. Sam's hands moved to her touseled hair and she began trying
to undo her braid with somewhat shaky hands. She succeeded in pulling some of her hair out in the
process. A cold sweat was noticeable on her brow. She was in shock.
Cameron jumped up, unable to sit and watch her destructive behavior any longer. He grabbed her and
pulled her to his chest.
"Let go of me, Cam!" She spit. Her fist were on his chest trying to leverage herself from his grasp, her
efforts bordering on being successful. Cam tightened his grasp and shook her by the shoulders slightly to
get her attention.
"Not until you either calm down or cry this thing out, Sam."
She ceased her struggle against him and her arms fell to her side. Cameron encircled her into a comforting
embrace. He began rubbing circles on her back.
Her voice was muffled by his shoulder, "I just….I just don't know what to do. I feel like I'm dieing inside.
"Shhh, Sam, we are going to fix this and go back home. We will figure this out."
"That may be so, but that won't bring the General back, he's dead in our reality." She finally let her tears
fall but she refused to totally loose her composure. She consciously choked back the sobs that threatened to
rack her body.
Cam looked to Daniel desperately for help. All he could do was stare at his hurting friend with a face that
reflected his very own pain.
A few minutes later the man of the hour walked in. Jack noticing Sam's apparent distress he kept silent for a moment
gauging the situation.
Sam sensing his presence released herself from Cam and wiped her eyes.
"You wanted to speak to me in private, Colonel Carter?"
