Why does this keep happening?

Set during 'Devil Girl'. I don't where Liz went an how far away she was from LA so I am making it up like any good writer.

Liz was bored out of her mind in her hotel room.

She instantly grabbed at her phone when it rang.

"Hello?" Liz answered the phone.

"Liz Warner?" the voice on the other side of the line asked.

"Yes"

"We have Nikki Betancourt here at Good Samaritan Hospital she has been in an accident and has listed you as her emergency contact"

"I can be there in a few hours" Liz said before hanging up the phone, changing into better clothes and jumping into her car.

Two hours later...

Liz walked into the hospital and demanded to see Nikki, when she was told to wait she flashed her badge and was led to the room.

Apon entering the room Liz felt her heart break at the sight.

"Oh Nik, this is twice that I have been worried about you on the job when I couldn't be there" Liz mumbled grabbing Nikki's hand.

"Well it comes with the territory, y'know that" Nikki muttered withdrawing her hand to sit up.

"Can you promise to be a little more careful? Please for me?"

"Firstly we were in sight of a serial killer and secondly I wasn't driving it was Colby, blame him"

"I'm not going to blame Colby, you were with him, you were his partner, you should have told him to slow down. Now you are just another statistic in how you are more injured then the driver." Liz said.

"How long can you be here?" Nikki asked.

"I can be in your bed by the time you finish this case but I have to leave..." Liz looked at her watch and sighed "Now. I'm sorry"

Liz walked to the door and took a look back and flashed a smile that was only half-returned.

Two days later...

Nikki walked into her apartment and was met with a dark room with candles everywhere.

"What the hell?"

"I told you that I'd be in your bed by the time the case finished." Liz said coming up behind the other woman "I know that we can't do anything but I'm sure that we can just cuddle"

"Did you just suggest we cuddle? That was the one thing that I never thought that you would say" Nikki teased.

"You know what I mean" Liz rolled her eyes.

"Yes I do and I love you for it"

That night as Liz held the sleeping Nikki in her arms she vowed to keep the girl as safe as she could.

As Nikki lay there pretending to be asleep she vowed to herself and to Liz to play it as safe as possible.
