Basketball

A/N A quick drabble written for one of my 100 prompts. Gwen ponders on basketball, alpha males and David Attenborough…..

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"David Attenborough would be happy here", Gwen thought. "And now we can see the alpha male being challenged, whilst the females look on." She smiled to herself, imagining his low voice whispering that as he watched all of the Torchwood gang. They were playing basketball, Gwen's least favourite sport at school, but now she quite enjoyed it as they were all able to muck around and it was interesting to watch the boys play, each trying to outperform the other and show off to the girls, Tosh and herself.

Jack, being the alpha male, as it were, was quite the pro at this game. He would bound around the end of the Hub they played in and score basket after basket, unchallenged. However, Owen was creeping up, slowly but surely behind him, and sometimes would disarm the captain with a single well thought through swipe of his hand, and then he would be away, unbeatable. Ianto, on the other hand, was completely useless. Sport really was not his thing, and it wouldn't be long before he'd come up with an excuse as to why he couldn't play any more and would disappear off to reorganise the different pots of coffee they had in the kitchen, or to water the plants.

It was just like real life, playing basketball. Each man fought for the upper hand, for the most power and the most respect from the others – especially the females. As Owen tried to bat the ball out of Jack's hand and Jack twisted round, meaning that Owen fell off balance and hit his head on a metal pole stuck randomly in the Hub, Gwen realised that. The struggle for power was played out in the game of basketball just as it was out in the world. She hurried over to see if Owen was alright, but he got up and batted her away gently, gallantly pretending it was nothing. Still, as he walked over to the other side of the Hub for game to commence again, he looked over at her with a smug expression on his face as he saw her concern for him. Jack watched his gaze carefully with a stern face and cold eyes, the muscles in his cheeks taught.

The only question was, which male would win?

A/N R & R! 'Tis only polite:-)
