just finished reading the book for school, and i loved it so much!

DISCLAIMER: i don't own it ;)

"Atticus," Jem said. "What's gonna happen now?"

I sighed, and quickly searched for the right answer. I didn't want to tell him a lie. I couldn't. So I told him the truth. "I don't know."

I tucked Jem and Scout into bed, and then went to the living room.

"Atticus?" Scout quietly appeared in around the corner.

"Yeah, hun?"

"Can I come in?"

"Yes."

My daughter darted in the room and crawled up onto my lap. "I'm scared, Atticus."

"And why is that?"

"Momma's not here. She always used to tuck me into bed and made sure I'd cleaned up my face and all that."

"That's no reason to be scared, Scout. I'm still here. I'll do all the things that your Momma used to do for you."

"But you gotta work and go to town all the time. You don't got any time for me and Jem."

"That's not true, Scout. I can always make time for you two." I held her close to my chest. "Now go run up back to bed. It's been a long day for both of us."

"Yes sir." She kissed my cheek quickly and went back up the stairs to her bedroom.

I picked up my newspaper and scanned the headlines, but nothing seemed interesting after this morning.
