"You mindwiped me?" Chloe stood by her kitchen counter, a cleaver within easy reach.

So far Chloe hadn't aimed for the cleaver so Clark knew he was safe. But he knew that if he stepped out of range, there was a 50% chance someone else would be mistaken for fresh meat.

"Chloe, listen to me. You're making too much of this. Try to understand."

"You want me to try to understand?" Chloe moved away from the counter. "You broke our connection Clark. I keep wondering, why do I not remember a simple argument with Jimmy? Did our lives pass by that perfectly. I mean, you're my best friend Clark and even we fight sometimes so why should me and Jimmy be any different."

Chloe paused. "But then it hit me. A week before today Jimmy took me to an ice castle and I stood in one room all alone, surrounded by fake snow and ice and it just came flooding back - you, the fortress, Jor-el. The time when I asked Jor-el to save you and.."

Chloe sat down and Clark sighed and sat next to her. "Why'd you do it Clark?"

"I wanted you safe. Away from my troubles" he said. "I didn't want complications to plague your life"

"Complications made me who I am today." Chloe said. "If I didn't have these obstacles I wouldn't be where I am today. I wouldn't deserve all this - my life, my career - nothing. You broke the connection Clark."

The connection Clark thought

"This isn't about me is it?" Clark said gently "Are you going to tell him?"

"He probably doesn't want to speak to me anymore." Chloe said, knowing Clark had already put everything together. "He kissed me and said 'I am not ready to let you go. I will wait, for as long as it takes' I wouldn't blame him if he got tired of waiting."

Clark put his arms around her and Chloe leant her head against his shoulder. They both knew they weren't talking about Jimmy.
