The road hadn't looked this dark when I first set out upon it. In the beginning, things were light and airy as if to coax me into the world. As I tread along the path, the sky was vibrant with life. Birds flew above me, clouds teased and chased after one another, and the sun's rays danced their way to my skin. Perhaps it was my decisions that made the world grow cold. Or rather someone else's perception of my path became entangled with my own, twisting it into an entirely new journey. The wind's bite grew sharper and the forest life fled from my trail. Trees moaned their sorrows to me. The melody of the world I'd been traveling in became slow and unnerving. I quickened my pace, my footsteps accompanied by those following me. It could have just been my imagination, but my skin grew icy as the presence of another seemed to close in behind me. The frozen hand grabbed my arm and spun me around. My breath caught in my throat as my tear filled eyes met his. His eyes seemed to hold a sad longing for life, a life that had eluded him for centuries. He drug me into his embrace, clinging to me as if we were opposite sides of Velcro. I felt my consciousness slip from me, my body relaxing against my will. "Give in to me," He whispered. No, the road hadn't looked this dark when I first set out upon it.
