Niles and Daphne, holding hands, walked hand in hand into their daughter's room, where she was cradling a newborn boy. A boy! Niles and Daphne had a grandson! It seemed as if the Moon genes were rather prominent after all.
"Hello my darling, how are you feeling?" Niles leaned over to kiss Leah while taking in the look at the newest addition to the family.
"I have a boy! Daddy, can you believe I have a son?" Leah grinned, tears falling down her face.
"I know. Your mother and I couldn't be any prouder of you then at this very moment."
"Would you like to know what Joe and I have named him?"
"Of course!" Daphne and Niles said in unison.
"His name is Martin. Martin N iles Crane-Thompson. Do you think Grandpa would have been proud?"
Now Niles joined his daughter in crying. "Leah, I can honestly say your grandpa Martin would have been so proud of you. You did right by your grandfather. I'm so touched that his middle name is after me, but to know that you still remember your grandpa and would choose to honor someone who meant so much to your Uncle Frasier and I still even though...well..." he started to choke up.
"It's okay, dear," Daphne reassured her husband.
"I'm sorry. Both of you must think I'm quite the fool losing my head like this..."
"Nonsense Daddy. I do have a confession to make..."
"What's that?"
"As much as I loved my grandpa and as much as I love you and Mum, I am overwhelmed by what I'm feeling for little Marty. Is that natural?"
Daphne smiled. "Of course. When I first realized I loved your father I couldn't imagine loving anyone more than I loved him. Then David came along and I couldn't picture me heart growing any bigger. But then you came along and I was amazed at how much love I was capable of giving."
"That's why I love your mother so much. She's got the biggest heart of any person I have ever known. If you take after your mother in any way, I have all the faith in the world that you'll be the best mother. Don't worry. Your mother and David and Joe and I will do anything in the world to be there for you now."
"Thank you Daddy. Oops Marty's fussing. I do need your help with one thing..."
"It's been a long time since I've changed a diaper..." Niles smiled.
"No Daddy. Will you tell Marty his first bedtime story? Would you mind telling him about the night you asked Mum out?"
Daphne and Niles looked at each other and smiled. It was a well told story, but definitely one worth telling all over again. Daddy's little girl sure had made her father proud.
The end
