It is afternoon in the Commonwealth. Katheryn is in the settlement where she grew up in. She is reading the Wasteland Survival Guide while next to a campfire. This book was a gift from her parents to her. They gave it to her so she can learn how to survive. This book cost 200 caps, but they thought it was worth it. She has been reading this book for a few years already. This book has helped her learn important skills, such as hunting, cooking, finding shelter, and self defence.

She is reading this book to help her relax after she returned from wastes looking for items to scavenge or trade. Katheryn has always been the type to read books while she relaxed. This was her way of learning more about the world she lived in. However, reading was not enough for her. She also had a very strong sense of curiosity. Katheryn has always wanted to travel all over the wasteland. She wanted to explore the ruins of buildings to find things that could be useful to her.

The items Katheryn is searching for include pre-war books, bottlecaps, and food. She would have to defend herself from raiders, super mutants, and feral ghouls. To prepare herself for scavenging these old buildings, she would bring her pistol, knife, stimpaks, and water to help her survive. She needs to be able to protect herself in case she gets attacked while trying to scavenge items. While on her way to a junkyard, she meets with a trader. She purchases supplies for her to use. These supplies included ammo, food, water, and medical supplies. In total, this cost her 300 caps. "I would have to find a way to make up for these caps," she thought to herself, after she purchased these supplies. They were expensive for her. Katheryn began walking on the ruined road. She would sometimes have to stop to rest, either in abandoned buildings or other settlements.

On her way to the settlement, a raider threatened her. "If you want to get past me, hand over all of your bottle caps," he shouted at her in an intimidating way. Feeling scared, she walked backward. Her hand reached for her pistol. The raider pulled out his gun to force her to give up all of her belongings. She refused, knowing that it would be more difficult for her to survive if she gave up all of her belongings to him. The raider fired a few shots at her but luckily, the shots missed. She fired back at the raider. The raider was not that lucky. Katheryn did not enjoy shooting the raider, but she needed to do it to survive. There was no other choice for her. She continued traveling to a place where she could rest.

Katheryn stopped near an area with an abandoned campground with benches and shacks. There was a campfire in the middle of the place. She was feeling exhausted from traveling so she started searching for a safe place to sleep. She found a spot where she would be safe from raiders and animals. She slept until the morning of the next day.
