Song of a Jailbird

Prologue

Two men sat in their house at two o'clock in the morning counting their profit for the week.

"We're short, man. That kid didn't come through."

"He hasn't been coming through for a month. We need to cut him."

"We can't. He has a lot of Mary-Jane at his hole of an apartment. That's a lot of dope to carry."

"Who said we were going to cut him?"

"The police again? That's a lot of money wasted."

"The kid hasn't come through for month. We waste more money discussing this. We'll call the police and give them an anonymous tip and there goes our problem."

The other man just nodded.

'LAST CHANCE! Get the money to John's place, now!'

Teddy stared at the piece of paper that had been taped to his door for a week. He currently lay in bed, staring at that scrape of paper and wondering why his bosses haven't come banging on his door. Teddy had every intention of getting the money to John's place, but he doesn't have the money. He hadn't been selling much lately. With a sigh, he slowly turned over and stayed in bed, ignoring his empty stomach. He didn't want to eat; he'd much prefer to sleep, but he can't. For a month he's tried to sleep, but sleep had been evading him…

BANG! BANG!

"OPEN UP!"

Teddy felt immobile. He couldn't move even if he wanted to. The banging continued.

"OPEN UP! POLICE! OPEN UP!"

CRASH!

Teddy felt someone force him out the bed and push him hard against the wall.

"You Theodore, or 'Teddy', Duchamp?" Teddy nodded. "You're under arrest for being in possession of marijuana and selling it to minors." Teddy's heart dropped to his stomach as the police put the handcuffs on him. "You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say or do can and will be used against you. You have the right to an attorney…"

And here Teddy thought life couldn't get any worse.

Author's Comments!

This is the prologue; not all my stuff will be this short. Updates will not be frequent. I've got to focus on my other stories and homework and college applications, etc. But I figured as long I as I've got this typed, I might as well post it. It would force me to write the rest. So, here's a preview and I'll see you later!
