Honks and Helmets

No! Meulin!

That is all I can remember… Kurloz spelled out in sign language. Mituna was there with Kurloz, but was wearing his favorite bright yellow helmet, and babbling to nothing. Mituna had been there. He spelled out again. The counselor wrote that down.

"Alright." She said, putting a hand on Kurloz's shoulder. "I can't imagine how hard this is for you Mr. Makara, but please, remember she wouldn't want you to mourn her." Kurloz broke out into silent tears, and did so much sign language so fast that Mituna couldn't understand. "H-hey K-K-Kurloz, s-slow down!" Mituna wrapped his arms around Kurloz's head, and kissed him on the cheek, making Kurloz blush. Mituna tried bringing his head away but his helmet was caught in Kurloz's hair. "Uhhh! U-ughhh!" He tried pulling away and the counselor giggled, pulling them gently apart. "Looks like you have a supporting friend to help you." Mituna giggled and started to drool a bit, and Kurloz smiled gently, and took his shirt and wiped the drool from his cheek. Mituna smiled, and held Kurloz's hand and rested a hand on his shoulder, mumbling to himself.

Kurloz smiled, and gripped his hand, and walked out of the building with Mituna, was very wobbly. He handed Mituna his skateboard, but Mituna never used it to ride, but to help him walk. The two of them walked hand in hand until they got back to Latula's house. Latula smiled and welcomed them in. "Hi guys! Welcome back!"

Latula had become sort of the stay at home, take care of them both, mom. She helped Mituna over to the couch, and then took off his big yellow boots, and his favorite helmet, releasing a mess of black hair. He giggled as Latula changed his socks and put on his slippers, and she ruffled his already messy hair, making him twitch and laugh.

She then walked over to Kurloz and took his coat, looking a bit more sad. "How are you Kurloz?" He signed back to her that he was "alright" and didn't want to talk about it. She nodded and walked over to the kitchen, and smiled. "Who wants hot chocolate?" She yelled. "M-m-me!" Said Mituna happily. "Alright, one for Mituna! Kurloz?" She looked over at him and he nodded, sitting down next to Mituna.

Mituna giggled and wrapped his arms around Kurloz's waist, and Kurloz remembered the way Meulin used to do that. He started to cry, and Latula stopped what she was doing and helped him. "Hey hey, it's going to be okay Kurloz. I promise. You have me and Mituna to take care of you!" That brought a smile to his face, and Latula brought over the hot chocolate. "Yeeee-" Latula encouraged Mituna to finish his sentence. "C'mon you can do it!" "Y-Yeah!" He finally chocked out. Latula smiled widely and hugged him. "You did it! You did it! I am so proud of you!" Mituna smiled and drank some of his perfect hot chocolate, as did Kurloz. They all sat together praising Mituna for being so smart, and bubbly, and the day seemed so perfect aside from that morning.

But it didn't last.

That night, Mituna had one of many attacks he usually had. They had been under control for so long, and they didn't know what happened. Kurloz's heart broke as he saw Latula crying holding a phone to her ear, yelling, as she held the twitching and gagging Mituna close to her. "Help!" She screamed over and over until they came, and Mituna was gone for the rest of the night.

Kurloz and Latula stayed with him until he was better, but he was still asleep when they brought him out of recovery. So they brought him home in the car that they had, and set him in his favorite pajamas, and his favorite bed sheets. He looked so sound asleep, and Kurloz cried again, sitting on the floor. Latula rubbed his back and sat next to him. "It'll be okay, we didn't lose him this time." Kurloz nodded and wiped the tears away, and watched over Mituna for the rest of the night.
