I Am a Free Narnian...

The air is unseasonably cold. For two years, this coldness has seeped into the land of my husband's people…so very different from the warm shelter that was my childhood home. Many of my kin called to me that fateful day when the royal family was lost, but I did not join them. I would not leave my husband or the children I had given him. I waited for the Lion to come to Narnia and free us of this evil. He did not come. I could not bring my heart to believe that He had abandoned us. The Centaurs said there was a prophecy, one of their seers had uttered it before his sentence was meted out, and there was still cause for hope.
My husband's family dared to hide our children and me… But, we were found. The Wolves remembered my scent, too distinctive, but they did not realize I could fight being only a few days after I'd given birth to my youngest. Oh but I could. I fought with a poker and a skillet, giving my children time to escape, the oldest cradling my newborn daughter. The Wolves bit me and finally dragged me down.
The air grows colder. My family… It has been over a year since I last saw my children. I pray they are still safe somewhere. Please, Great Lion, keep my children safe. Tell them that I love them.
They come for me. The chains bite into my flesh as I am shoved forward, loaded into a wagon, and then taken to the Stone Table. I am being taken to my fate.
She is waiting. Cold, beautiful like the poisonous sea snakes, very beautiful but oh so deadly. I am tall. She is taller. She points her wand in my direction and I believe she will turn me to stone, but she merely gives me a smile so devoid of warmth I feel the cold surrounding me deepen. She points to the Stone Table, "Take the traitor and bind her to the table." She raises a stone knife and I briefly wish that I could hold my children close once more. She leans toward me, a mocking, cruel smile on her pale lips, and asks, "Have you any last words, traitor?"
I watch the sky open and snow begins to fall. It is spring and snow is falling. I know in my heart that this is her work. As she watches me, I think of who I am. I am a Nereid, a Nymph of the ocean. I am a wife to a brave Faun, a soldier who gave his life trying to help the last of the Humans flee Narnia. I am a mother to three sweet children, two sons and one daughter. I am Amphitrite and I am a free Narnian. As she raises her knife to strike, I know what I must say and I smile, "Long live Aslan. He will remember us."
