Tony tried to keep fighting, he tried to defeat his devil-like foe but he just couldn't. He knew he had to try and try until he couldn't try anymore to save Pepper, but he was at the point where he couldn't try anymore. Seeing Pepper's mind being controlled by someone was unbearable a sight enough; fighting this powerful foe was almost too much for him. Before his surrender, Tony got up off the ground, gathered all his remaining power into the unibeam, and fired it at the villain. He was sent back quite a few feet, unconscious and laying in a pile of rubble from what was the wall of a building.
Iron Man dropped to his hands and knees, on the verge of collapsing.
No, Tony please don't give up, please don't surrender, I believe in you! Come on, get up! Pepper thought. But her thoughts were not her own at the moment.
"I give up, I-I can't beat you. I can't fight you if I know that Pepper is in danger. I need you by my side, Pepper, I need to see your bright smile and I need you to babble on and on to me about God knows what, I need to know that when I wake up in the morning hoping to see you that wish will come true. I need you, please..." Tony explained, hoping that he'd gotten to the Pepper on the inside. There was a moment of silence between the two of them as Tony tried to gather his strength and stand up again and as Pepper fought against mind control.
"Oh, Tony! That's soo sweet!" Pepper said, jumping onto him with a hug. Tony, having not expected this, was now confused.
"Pepper, is that you? Did you bypass the controller disc or something?"
"I guess you could say that..." She said. There was a brief moment of silence.
"Soo...did you hear all that or do I need to repeat?"
"Tony I came to after the first sentence, don't worry." Pepper smiled. Tony wrapped his arms around her waist with a smile.
"Good." Pepper gave him a quick peck on the cheek and released him. Tony wanted to go back in for more, but she stopped him with a finger to his lips.
"Ah ah ah, not yet. This way I know you'll come back." She smiled. "Now, go catch us a bad guy." Tony smiled. Good old Pepper.
The fiery redhead smiled as she watched her knight in shining armor take to the skies. She sighed in delight.
