The Funeral for Harold Hooper
November 28, 1983
The day of November 28, 1983, was supposed to be a day of happiness like all others. But not today. The streets are
deserted and Hooper's Store is locked up and a sign reads, "Closed for the recent passing of Harold Hooper." At the St.
Patrick's cathedral in New York, the entire neighborhood is sitting and paying their last respects to their favorite store owner.
The casket of Harold Hooper is brought in as the church cathedral sings the opening hynm. His casket is decorated with an
American flag since he was a veteran in the second World War and Bob, David, Gordon, and Luis are serving as
pailbearers. The reverend Billy Graham approaches and is dressed in a white shawl. He approaches the altar and opens his
arms. "Good Morning," he said. "Good Morning," replied the Congregation. "Today, the lord takes a soul and brings him
home. Yea, heaven I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, he leadeth me. And though this body be destroyed, the
lord will invited Harold into the world of eternal life. We ask this through Christ, our lord." The congregation says "Amen,"
and sits. Harold's long time friends, Bert and Ernie, approach the altar and prepare to read an excerpt. Bert said, "A reading
from the holy gospel, according to Luke: 'Jesus was arrested and brought to trial. The king, Pontius Pilate approached him
and said, 'Son of God, you have been accused of praying to God and disobeying my people. Therefore, you shall be
sentenced to death.'" Ernie continued, " 'Jesus was stripped of his clothing and it was tied around his waist. He was then
given a very large cross. For the three times he fell, he was whipped. They nailed him and as he was dying he shouted,
'Father, why weren't you there for me?' and he bowed his head and died. Just three days later, he rose from the dead and
said, 'Friends, I will be with you in the name of the father, and of the son, and of the holy spirit.' He finally said, 'I will be with
you from now until the end of the world.' Then, he disappeared.'" Then, they said, "The word of the lord." And the
congregation said, "Thanks to be God."
