A/N: Hey there! Really felt like doing a Kobato story. Wrote it as a one-shot, but if you'd like me to continue, I'd be happy to :D Just let me know what you all think!
Eternal Love
He remembers the day clearly. He had just finished proving his client innocent of bribery and theft, and was being congratulated on the flawless victory. It was a spring day. The cherry blossoms had already bloomed. His phone vibrated in his coat pocket. Puling it out, he saw he was getting a call from Sayaka. Answering, there was a lot of screaming, but he could make out one thing.
His wife was going into labor.
He quickly packed his things and jetted for his car where he sped down the streets to the hospital where Chitose had Sayaka had driven her. Parking horribly out front, he stormed through the front doors and demanded to know where his wife was being held. Calming him down, they led him up to the third floor of the Labor and Delivery Unit. Coming upon room 343, he slid the door open. The breath left him for a second as he saw his wife sitting atop the table, panting heavily. Her face was contorted in pain, letting out groans every now and again. Quickly regaining himself, he rushed over to her side.
"Kobato," he said gently. Kobato opened her eyes from squeezed shut and gazed over at her husband.
"Fuji…moto," she replied gasping. Chitose moved to let him take her spot beside Kobato.
"How long has she been in labor?" he asked aloud.
"About an hour or so," Chitose answered.
Kiyokazu looked down at his wife and grabbed her hand. "It's going to be okay," he said, holding on tight.
"Fujimoto…I thought…you wouldn't make it…" she said quietly.
He chuckled. "How could I miss my own child's birth? And you're a Fujimoto now too, remember? Didn't I say to call me by my name?" he said gently. Sayaka had moved away as well by this point, giving the couple their privacy.
"Ha…you're right. I'm sorry…Kiyokazu." She smiled with as much strength she could muster.
The doctor came in and approached Kobato. He check her dilation while the nurses prepped his station. Kiyokazu didn't know how he felt with the male obstetrician, but what he was very professional the entire time.
"It looks like you're dilated enough. Now I'm going to need you to push, every time you feel a contraction. Okay?"
"Okay…" she whispered. She seemed so exhausted. All Kiyokazu wanted to do was go home and lie down with her on the couch and relax. But he knew, as well as she, that now was the time. It had been a long 38 weeks, and this baby was ready to come out. They had decided together that they were going to keep its gender a mystery until the day of. Which was today.
Kobato's groan brought him out of his thoughts. He quickly told Kobato to push, as did everyone else in the room. She tried her best, but gave in after a few seconds. He rubbed her face down with a wet cloth, given to him by one of the nurses.
"Kobato, you've got to push for longer, okay?" he said to her.
"I'm…I'm trying…it just hurts so bad. Kiyokazu…I'm so tired," she cried. It almost broke him down, but he kept it together. She needed him to be strong for her right now.
"It'll be okay, I'm right here. I'm right here." He kissed her forehead. "Just push as much as you can, okay honey?"
"Okay." Sayaka and Chitose were in tears at the sweetness of it all. They also couldn't believe they'd just heard Kiyokazu call Kobato "honey."
The doctor continued the delivery and everyone urged Kobato forward and Kobato tried her very best.
And at 4:12pm, weighing 6.3 ounces, little Kazuto made his way into the world.
