Short one-shot. Percy dies and Annabeth is left behind. I hope you like it!

Annabeth POV

Annabeth, Wise Girl. You need to wake up. I hated his damned voice in my head. No maybe that was wrong. Maybe I loved it. Maybe I missed it.

Wake up. Yes, that was right. I needed to wake up. I needed to show the new demigods around. But, I didn't want to leave my bed. My body ached, it felt like it was dragging me down. Pulling me to the bottom. Drowning me in my white sheets. White.
The color of ghosts. A memory tugged at the back of my mind. No, ghosts were gray. White was empty.

"Do I have to?"

Yes, love. The demigods are waiting on you. Think of those you are saving, think of the poor children. They are little more than that.

"You are just as annoying now as you were when you were alive." My voice was muffled by the pillow I clutched. I missed him next to me. Holding me as I slept. He made me feel safe. Now the blankets scratched against my bare legs.

Why thank you. I would have shoved him for that. I would have but he wasn't here. He never would be. Never again. Percy. He had died in the war leaving an empty hole in my heart where he had been.

Come on, get up. Get dressed. Jason and Leo are waiting for you downstairs.

I closed my eyes for a moment. When I opened them, I realized there was light streaming into our room. Yes. I had to get up. "What should I wear?"

I don't think my shirt is completely acceptable, no matter how much I enjoy you wearing it.

I reached for the edge of the bed and got out. The pillows and sheets slithered off the bed too, as if eager to follow me. I left them on the floor. I had no use for crumpled piles of snakes and scales.

I put on an orange Camp Half-blood t-shirt and jeans. What I usually wore except one thing.

"I haven't worn these brand of jeans since you arrived at camp."

I'm flattered but don't spoil these new demigods.

I would have stuck my tongue out at him. The I would have kissed him. Kissed him on his lips and hugged him. I would have let him do my hair, long strong hands working through my golden strands. But he was gone.

Jason's POV

She was talking to him again. To Percy. I could hear her as she walked around her room, talking. Did a voice answer her? I had never asked if he spoke back although, it would catch me off guard when, during meetings, she would mutter something, direct
it at a ghost. I was tempted to send a breeze after her, to tell it to follow her just so she could have something to converse with. I poured her a cup of tea as she came down the steps.

"Good morning Annabeth, sleep well?"

"Yes, very. Will comes by ever once in awhile to work his magic."

"Oh, yes. Nico seems to be of the same opinion. He uses it after going to the Underworld or when Will snores too loudly."

Annabeth shakes her head laughing softly. "Will? Snore? No way."

"Nico insists Will snores every night when they go to bed together. Percy got so fed up with Nico's winning that everyone snores, Nico always gets his own tent."

She laughs again and I smile at her. It's nice to see that she still is smiling, laughing after his death. It touched us all, but her the most. It was nice not to have her break down and cry whenever her name is mentioned. Scars heal but they still leave
an imprint. And this one touched her very soul.

"Percy says he kicked him out because he left dirt everywhere."

Says? Don't you mean said? But I kept my mouth shut, the words dying like a fire drenched in water. Percy was gone. Dead. "Percy was obsessed with hygiene. You know, son of the water god and all."

"What are you on about? We all have to clean" Leo reached over and grabbed himself some fruit then grinning at Annabeth. "Morning, Annie. Beautiful as ever."

"Good morning, Leo." Annabeth took her tea, sipping it politely and sitting down. She never took Percy's seat, she never sat there.

"I see we are going for the kickass hot girl fighter look today, are we intending on doing something awesome?"

"No, Leo. Not today."

"Are you sure? I know some guys who took my savings last night"

"Did you happen to gamble these savings?"

"Maybe. Oh maybe we could prank Travis. He got me good yesterday."

Annabeth rolled her eyes, sitting back in her seat and looked at him. "Anyone else?"

"Connor, the other Hermes kids, Clarisse, the other Hermes kids…am I missing anyone?" He looked at me when he said that.

"I think you missed the Hermes cabin," I replied getting another smile from Annabeth, setting her tea down on its saucer and nodding gravely, giving Leo a very serious look. "I hear you, Leo. I really do but their heads are so thick pranking them won't
achieve anything."

"Oh if only I could let Calypso on them…" He murmured, looking off into the distance as if following the flight of a butterfly. "That'd be good."

"Your children are going to be dangerous to the world," Annabeth muttered, looking at me.

"Are you ready to go?"

"Ready whenever you are" she gave me a slight nod then stood up, checking herself to make sure she had everything, then her eyes locked on his chair again, her hand reached out and touched it. Her fingers followed the curve of the wood and traced the
grain.

I believe in you, Wise Girl. I nearly swore I heard his voice.

Annabeth's POV

The camp was at its finest, the cool summer air tickled my face, dancing along my skin and blowing my top out behind me. While it wasn't cold, it wasn't warm either. It was just nice. I knew I could've taken the short way to the demigods, Jason had insisted
on it but I wanted to walk, just clear my head for a minute before the meeting them.

You can do it, Annie. You must stop doubting yourself like this, I would've sold my soul and the moon to Hera just to feel him again. To feel him touch my shoulder lightly in concern, like he did before all our missions together. I knew Jason
was concerned. I knew he watched me with more intensity than before, and I had noticed how his wind spirits were following me now as if to protect me from something. I didn't know what that something was. Myself or someone else?

Camp Half-blood was now known for its safety, no monsters like there were out in the real world. But now, gazing out through thr border I spotted a young girl screaming as she ran towards the camp. A hell hound chased her, pouncing on her. I screamed
and ran towards it. Out of the Camp. Out of the saafe zone.

Be careful, Wise Girl. I nodded, still sprinting. I wanted to say something back, I wanted to tell him that I heard him but I just kept running. Towards the girl. Towards the bloodstained grass. This girl, whoever she might be, was still demigod
and was still under my care. So I ran towards them, Drawing my dagger.

The girl was dead. I would see it. But this beast needed to be ended

It lunged for me. I stabbed it hitting my target. My head was spinning, I was vaguely aware of Percy's voice again, trying to encourage me but it all happened so fast. I didn't register it until I felt the stickiness of blood in my side, it had bitten
me then fell and dissolved its claws catching my side and expanding the wound. It had punctured my stomach, just below my ribs. I felt the sharp points pierce my skin. I felt it sink into my body and I knew I only had a matter of minutes before I
died. I could feel it.

Jason's POV

No. I could feel it, I could feel Annabeth screaming through the wing spirits. My adopted sister was screaming and I didn't waste a second, I flew straight to her side, catching her before she even hit the ground. "Annie," I breathed out, looking at her
side that was oozing with blood. The golden ashes of the hellhound stirred besides the body of the girl, and yet Annabeth wasn't angry.

I knew why.

"Jason" she breathed, giving me a weak smile. "Hello Jason."

"Hello Annabeth."

"I wasn't very good was it? Getting bitten and clawed," she rasped. I could feel my heart tightening, shaking my head.

"No you did good. You did so good."

"Leo will be ashamed, his mentor getting hurt."

"He's got hurt plenty of times before"

Her eyelids fluttered shut and I gently shook her. "No, no Annie. You need to wake up"

She mumbled something, her head lulling to the side then very slowly her eyes opened. "I didn't want…... to get up…... today."

"I know, Annabeth."

"Percy made me"

My thumbs gently touched the corner of her eyes to wipe away the tears. "Of course he would."

"I miss him" she choked out, her blood hadn't stopped, it was soaking into my clothes too.

"Annabeth."

"Don't..." she swallowed, speaking was hard now but breathing was harder. "Don't save….me"

"You are my sister, my friend."

"Percy..." she sobbed, I shifted my position, holding her close to my chest.

"Is he there, Annabeth? Is he waiting for you?"

"He's there."

"Is he smiling?"

"Yes." she smiled too. I remembered that every day, remembered that as I watched people being slaughtered or demigods dying on the battlefield. Watching people, who I knew could fight it just slipping into peaceful death. It's there, inside us, that sense
of knowing when it's our time to let go. And I knew from the look in her eyes, Annabeth had accepted this was her time to let go.

"Are you ready to be with him?" I whispered. Her eyes were barely open and her heart was barely beating. I couldn't feel it against me anymore. It took her a while to answer, she opened her eyes and looked at me.

"Yes" I closed my eyes, taking a deep breath.

"Then I'll stay, don't hold on Annabeth, when you're ready, just let go" I choked. She offered me a smile, closing her eyes again, "I see…an ocean."

"Sparkling and blue?" I asked. Annabeth smiled again, her eyes distant.

"July 4th, I remember dancing" The world was slowing down. I had registered Leo was nearby, maybe with Piper and the others, I wasn't too sure.

"That's right, Annabeth."

"Beautiful." she whispered and then she smiled again, tears streaming down her face. "Goodbye, good Prince."

"Goodbye, sister. Your family is here" Annabeth smiled. I don't think she could see them. I think her eyes were that clouded and she was so close to death. Piper kneeled next to me, taking Annabeth's hand and nodding. "I'm here." I could see the lump
in her throat.

"Hazel?"

"Yes?" The daughter of Pluto seemed to materialize next to me.

"Take care….of Frank."

"Always."

"And don't let Leo burn down any buildings."

"I can't promise that"

Annabeth chuckled, then she let out the softest noise I had ever heard, and she went still. I swore there was a disturbance in the air as she left. The daughter of Athena was together with her soulmate one again.
