This week from Nov. 19th to Nov. 25th is Bullying Awareness Week. Please take the time to learn about bullying, how much it hurts and what you can do, even the smallest things help. This story is from a Family Channel Stand Up Commercial.
P.S. This has nothing to do with my other storyKelsi Neilson scanned across the cafeteria to find an empty seat to sit and eat her lunch in. She came across a table with one seat open. She quietly walked over to the table.
"Um, can I sit here?" she shyly asked.
Sharpay Evans, the ice queen placed her purse in the seat. "Sorry, taken" she snobbishly said.
Kelsi walked away feeling dejected. A brunette at the table felt her guilty conscience acting up, as Kelsi went to eat her lunch in a bathroom stall.
The next day, Kelsi sat at a table by herself. The same brunette glanced over to see the shy brunette sitting by herself. She stood up taking her lunch tray with her. The kids at her table questioned why she was getting up. She walked over to the table where Kelsi sat. "Is this seat taken?" she pointed to an empty seat beside the shy girl.
"Um, no go ahead." Kelsi replied.
"My name's Gabriella Montez, sorry about Sharpay she can be bit of a witch, but we grew up together, so…" the brunette apologized.
"It's ok, I'm used to it, my name's Kelsi Neilson.
Gabriella shook her head "You shouldn't be used to it" she sighed. "So did you get the assignment Ms. Darbus assigned?
The table a few feet away stared at what was occurring before their eyes. One by one the table excluding Sharpay stood up and walked over to where the two girls sat.
"Wha-What?" Sharpay stammered. "Where are you going?"
A girl named Taylor spoke up. "Sorry Shar, but I don't like the way you treat people." The table sat empty except for Sharpay. She glanced melancholy at the table that had once been empty was full of people talking.
"Um, can I sit here?" A voice asked. The table glanced up to see a very dejected Sharpay standing there. The table fell silent.
"Sure" Kelsi piped up.
Sharpay slid into the seat next on the other side of Kelsi. Gabriella smiled at Sharpay, who was giggling at a joke Kelsi had told.
85 of kids watch another kid get bullied, 57 of the time if a bystander stands up the bullying stops. The bully just does it for an audience, so even if you're not brave enough to stand up, walk away, standing there watching is part of the problem.
FACT: Bullying happens to someone in Canada every 7 minutes on the playground
