A New World by Eve-the-Charlotte
Pairings: A few are implied, but not mentioned by name.
Number 15 in my little series in Witchblood universe, starring Destiny, aka Irene Adler. This fic draws from a lot of comic X-Men and its affiliates, as well as the X-Men movies and Wolverine and the X-Men cartoon. Anyways, sorry for not posting too much lately, I was rather busy. So, read and enjoy this peek into the future of the XME universe.
Irene Adler sat in her comfortable armchair, stroking her cane rather nervously. She was always nervous these days, with Apokolyps, Mesmero, and things such as that. Yet, that was not the case today, as her new visions had hardly a thing to do with them. No, she was much more concerned about the happenings beyond the coming months, many years after them, in fact.
She felt her mind's eye stare at a shiny placard that declared the Xavier Institute become dull and worn and eventually fall into ruin from disrepair. She watched the Institute be destroyed so many times, she could scarcely count. She watched the X-Men rise and fall, in a continuous cycle of love, pain, regret, and, ultimately, either betrayal or destruction. Yet, the seduction of Xavier's dream never stopped, never failed to ensnare yet another mutant and chain them to the never ending cycle of despair.
Even then, though, there was hope and love and happiness among the hate. Lovers came together and some wept, while many bonded eternally. She saw the birth of her own daughter, a tiny thing with blue skin, brown hair, and bright gold eyes. She saw her fall, being crucified for her very existence.
She also saw the newer generations of X-Men, with their special squads and amazing, uncanny powers. At first, all was well with them, even the one with the touch of death finding love in another, the healer with golden skin. Yet, in the end, it was all for naught. The newer X-Men fell as well, nearly starting another world war. As it was, or is going to be, it was barely averted.
Even though this had all happened, still the newest generation was still there, ready to fight, to make a stand. They were planning something, something big, something that would alter the course of history and possibly the very fabric of nature. But, as always, every time she attempted to see what they were planning, she was plunged back to the present. Irene believed it to be the Australian girl, the one who had reality warping powers of untold power, who always seemed to sense her just as she was starting to understand their little master plan. She always forced her back, and Irene was troubled by the force which the child used to do so. Irene knew she must find the answer to that riddle, and quickly.
Irene Adler continued to help her lover and her allies in the present, but Irene's eyes were always to the future. And, for once, the future terrified her.
This was pretty hard to write. I mean, how do you write someone who knows pretty much what's going to happen, without giving too much about the future away? And, also, how would she think? Hopefully, I did Irene Adler justice with this one. Read and review.
