Best friend lost

'Ron, where's Harry?' Ron scanned the great hall before turning back to Ginny's concerned face.

'I - I don't know Gin' He replied, barely above a whisper. His brothers mirrored the worry etched on his and Ginny's face.

'Look, he'll be okay. He's tough. Let's go and help by bringing some of the injured in here. ' Bill spoke in a voice that betrayed the fear he felt for Harry.

They all left the great hall and parted looking for the injured. All except for Ron. He tried to find Harry even though he knew it was useless. He had his cloak and if he didn't want to be found, he wouldn't be.

He was just thinking of places Harry could be, when a figure came into view.

'Neville. Have you seen Harry?' He knew he sounded desperate but at that moment he didn't care. He just wanted to see his best friend again and see that he was okay.

'Umm, yeah I have.' Neville informed Ron.

'Did he say anything?' He was scared to here the answer, but it needed to be known.

'Yes, he said something about Voldemort's snake, Nagini, and that it needed to be killed, that you and Hermione know about it. He said that he wasn't handing himself over, b-but I think he might have been lying'

Ron's eyes widened in fear. That could only mean one thing.

He quickly got to his feet and hurried to find Hermione, leaving Neville confused and worried. Ron didn't have to go far when he ran right into Hermione. As she wiped away a tear he didn't know he'd shed, she looked into his eye's and noticed they showed the most fear she'd ever seen in his eyes.

Know words were exchanged, but none were needed. She knew what had happened. Fat tears began to fall down her cheeks. Ron went to hold her, but at that moment a high cold voice echoed along the corridor.

'Harry Potter is dead. He was killed as he ran away, trying to save himself while you lat down your lives for him. We bring you his body as proof that your hero is gone. The battle is won. You have lost half of your fighters. My Death Eaters outnumber you and the Boy Who Lived is finished. There must be no more war. Anyone who continues to resist, man woman or child, will be slaughtered, as will every member if their family. Come out of the castle, now, kneel before me, and you shall be spared. Your parents and children, your brothers and sisters will live, and be forgiven, and you will join me in the new world we shall build together.'

They both walked quickly out of the castle, not to kneel before Voldemort, but to see with there own eyes that their friend was gone. Their eyes quickly found Hagrid and a bit of relief came to them, but it went and they saw what he was carrying.

Harry's lifeless form lay in Hagrid's arms. They both screamed out for him and heard Ginny and many others do the same. Hermione had dropped to her knee's, Ginny was being held back by Bill. Ron tried to run forward, but Charlie was holding him back.

He wanted to shake Harry, tell him to wake up and stop joking. He wanted to shout at him for leaving him, his family and Hermione. He wanted to kill the snake, the final horcrux. Then he could kill Voldemort in a long and painful way.

He shouted abuse at Voldemort, watched from the sidelines as Neville killed the snake and fought the death eaters in the battle that followed.

He turned just in time to see his Mother kill Bellatrix Lestrange. Voldemort screamed and raised his wand at her. A voice he knew extremely well yelled 'Protego', and then Harry was there. He couldn't believe his eyes. His best friend was there. Alive.

Ron didn't pay attention to what Harry was saying he was to busy wondering if this was a dream. He began to pay attention as Voldemort toppled backwards and cheers erupted throughout the great hall. Ron engulfed Harry and Hermione in a huge hug before being pushed away by everyone else.

The battle was won. Voldemort was dead and Harry was alive.
