Tonks sat at her kitchen table, staring out the window at the thunderstorm. The rain is so nice She thought. Sighing contently, she stood up to start dinner. Today was Remus's birthday. He was out job hunting at the moment. Harry had defeated Voldemort over a year ago, but it was still hard for Remus to find a job.

Tonks walked over and put the meat in the oven and the vegetables in skillet to cook. There, she thought. Now that dinner is cooking, I can start on his cake. 0pening the cupboard, Tonks realized that the flour she needed was on the top shelf. Standing on her tip toes, Tonks tried to pull the flour off of the top shelf.

The next thing that Tonks knew flour was flying all over the place. Her small kitchen looked like a winter wonderland. Amazingly, she managed not to get any flour on herself. Feeling in her pockets, Tonks realized that her wand was on the other side of the kitchen. Trying to be careful, she started to walk slowly across the room. Suddenly, she tripped over a chair leg and landed flat on her face.

"Great, just great," She muttered as she pulled herself off of the floor. "Real smooth Tonks. Now you have flour all over yourself."

Miraculously, she made it to her wand without any more problems. Giving it a wave, most of the flour in the kitchen disappeared, but some spots here and there remained. Looking down at her front, she saw that all there was still flour all over her too.

"Well, I was never good at those cleaning spells anyways."

At that moment, Tonks realized that she didn't smell the wonderful aroma of the meat cooking. Running over to the oven, she pulled the door open, but no heat greeted her. With a yell of frustration, Tonks set the oven temperature. Out of the corner of her eye, she could see thick billowing smoke rising from the stove.

"Oh my gosh!" Tonks yelled. "I forgot about the vegetables." Turning, she tried to pull the skillet off of the hot burner, but just ended up dropping it on the floor.

"Now what am I going to do?" Tonks yelled, angry.

Just then, she heard the door open and Remus yell, "I'm home!" Tonks turned; ready to explain what had happened, when CRACK, a brilliant bolt of lightening knocked out the electricity.

This is going to be the worst birthdays he is ever go to have, Tonks thought miserably as she felt her way to one of the kitchen chairs, trying not to cry. She could hear Remus trying to find his way through the darkened house, occasionally bumping into furniture. Another bolt of lightening lit up the kitchen and she could see him standing at the doorway. Remus saw the sadness on her face and made his way over to the chair, kneeling in front of it.

"What's wrong?" he asked, concerned.

Tonks told him the story of her cooking disaster. At the end she whispered, "I'm sorry for ruining your birthday."

Remus laughed softly, and pulled her, flour covered and all into a tight embrace.

"You didn't ruin my birthday." He whispered in her ear. "It doesn't matter to me if you cooked dinner well or even not at all, you tried, that's all that matters to me. Plus, I found I job at the Ministry today."

"That's wonderful," she said before kissing him.

"Yes, yes it is." Remus replied. "Now, go get cleaned up and I'll make dinner."

"Really?" Tonks asked, grinning.

Remus nodded. "I love you." Tonks said.

"I love you too," he replied as he began to clean up the kitchen.

Tonks turned to go, but stopped to tell Remus one more thing, "Happy Birthday."
