'Where are you going to anyway?' a tentative voice enquired over the others. Her beautiful voice; which was trying so hard to mask a broken heart, was soft and sweet. He heard her over all the others and turned to face her quivering face.
'Teddy, where are you going?' she asked again, each word was forced out, her throat was choking up.
'Let's go outside for a bit, eh' he suggested, carefully avoiding the question, at least, until they were out of sight. She reluctantly followed him, but eagerly taking his offered hand.
They walked out of the full house into the less suffocating garden. It was beautiful, decorated with twinkling fairy lights with the pale moonlight giving the flowers an ethereal look in themselves.
They sat in a comfortable silence for a while, allowing the slightly chilly air draw then closer together.
'Teddy, where are you going?' the girl broke the spell, asking the question again, with a lot more determination in her quavering voice now.
He knew that he could not avoid the inevitable again, he would have to leave; he could not freeze time and stay with her forever. He would go off into the adult wizarding world in a couple of weeks and she would go back to the safe haven of Hogwarts.
'I truly don't know. If I did I would tell you, but I have not decided. I kind of want to stay here, you know' he said with a meaningful glance over to the girl. She merely stared back at him, fighting back the tears that started to well in her striking blue eyes.
'Well, tell me when you settle down, eh? I want to write, every day. And you had better reply' she replied with a half-hearted attempt at humor. He smiled softly back at her, in an attempt at imprinting every single one of her irresistible features into his memory.
'I'll write you just send them back. They'll find me. I don't exactly plan on staying in one place too long anyway. I just want a bit of a break, and then I'll come back and work for the Ministry. Just like a good, hard working man' he spoke with such forced enthusiasm. He knew deep down that she would move on. Next year would be different, he wouldn't be there with her; she would find someone else. No, not someone else, she would find someone. She had never been his and, he realised with a sinking heart, she never would be. Her beauty shone like no other and he did not deserve her.
'You already are a good man, Teddy' she said with a tone of sadness and awe in her voice.
They sat in silence for a longer time; merely watching the party inside and resting their hands against each others. It was comfortable but as the night became darker, the weather became wilder. Soon the wind was howling and the dark storm clouds hung menacingly overhead.
Soon a sprinkle of rain fell lightly, then fat, dense drops began to pour down onto to two as they ran back to the warm and secure house. They stopped once they were undercover; just outside the door. They took deep, heaving breaths and then stood, smiling at each other.
They both leaned into the other, their eyes closed seductively and they shared their first kiss together. Needless to say there were fireworks. He tasted her lips, so sweet and full and she felt his strong hands support her. They broke apart, more breathless than before.
'Write me Teddy' the girl said.
'Every day Victoire' answered the boy. And he did.
