Mrs. Bennet's Mothers Day

Lizzy Bennet, a healthy girl of nine years, came skipping into the kitchen of Longbourn, a half-wilted daisy in her hand and her hair flying wildly out behind her.

"Mama! Look at what I got!" she cried in the general direction of the sitting room. She raced in, finding that the rest of the family had already assembled to head to the Sunday service. They looked up from their preparations.

"Mama! Mama! Lookit!" Lizzy said, crawling onto her mother's lap.

"That is a very pretty daisy, Lizzy. Now you must go put on your Sunday clothes! It is time for church!" cried Mrs. Bennet.

"Yes, Mama," said Lizzy, skipping up to her room, glowing with success.

"Lizzy Margaret Bennet! You come down here right now!" yelled Mrs. Bennet, in a state of frenzy.

"What is it, Mama?" asked Lizzy, confused as to why her mother kept on making her go up and down the stairs.

"You have just ruined my best dress. Now I must go get a new one ready, and we shall be late for church- the entire town is going to think we are rude!" Mrs. Bennet was getting into one of her panic modes.

"My dear, you must go in your every day clothes. No one will notice the difference," sighed Mr. Bennet, "Lizzy only meant well. It is Mothers Day, after all."

"She may have meant well, but where does that leave me? With mud on my front! You should not allow her to take those walks, Mr. Bennet! My poor nerves cannot stand it!"

"Mrs. Bennet! You will do as I say, or you will go in the dress you have on now."

And so it happened that the Bennets were just a little bit late to the Mothers Day service and Mrs. Bennet was just a little flustered as they arrived.

A/N: Poor Mrs. Bennet… Her "poor nerves" don't seem to like her all that much, actually. She should tell them to stop following her around. *crickets chirping *… Okay, that was bad. Anyways, happy early Mothers Day!
