At last

He slipped into the bar with the guys, looking at the stage. A girl stood in the middle, wearing a sultry black cocktail dress, her feathered black hair going lower and lower, almost past the dress itself. She was tiny, her face defined with soft cheeks and kind yet wise eyes. Behind her was the band, two violins, a drum set and a guitar. Their eyes met, her chocolate brown eyes seeming to lock into his bright green ones and there seemed to be a spark.

"You know her, Jeffro?" His brother Matt asked as they sat down before the stage. Shaking his head, Jeff watched her end the song she had been singing, her voice never wavering as she held the notes and the words as Jeff held the beer he ordered. Once the guitar stopped strumming, applause broke out and Jeff stood with the others. "Calm down little chickadees, I have one last song for you tonight. This goes out to a new guy I just met."

The violins started slowly, and some people got what the song was, though most, like Jeff, had to wait till she began to sing.

"At last, my love has come along."

She looked into his eyes, taking the microphone out of the stand and walked off stage, sitting on Jeff's lap. Men whooped and hollered.

"My lonely days are over
And life is like a song."

She got up, winking at him before wandering to other spots, though she never got close enough to some of the drunk men to let them touch her.

"Oh, yeah, at last
The skies above are blue
My heart was wrapped up in clovers."

She looked to Jeff with love in her eyes as she got back to the stage, swaying her body to the slow beat of the music. In the background, people had began to dance.

"The night I looked at you
I found a dream that I could speak to
A dream that I can call my own."

She got on her knees, leaning closer to Jeff, slowly kissing him, the smell of chocolate and cherries filling his nose and mind.

"I found a thrill to rest my cheek to
A thrill that I have never known
Oh, yeah when you smile, you smile
Oh, and then the spell was cast."

She got back into his lap, cuddling with him, her back against his chest, her face looking up at him, her eyes reflecting his.

"And here we are in heaven
For you are mine
At last."
