She sighed as she placed the small house plant on her balcony in the hopes that it might catch a little sunlight. "Karly! Why haven't I seen your brother lately? Or that young man of yours either for that matter?" Karly glanced next door where an elderly woman was glaring at her, "They both went to fight for the Empire," she adjusted the plant slightly, "I told you that when they left, remember?" The cerulean flush faded slightly from the old woman's cheeks, "Empire? Oh yes, of coarse…That reminds me! Have you heard about our triumph over those nasty rebels at Hoth?" A look of concern passed over the young woman's face, "No, I hadn't, what where the casualties like?" "Don't worry so dear. We only lost a few dozen boys. Not like those rebels, everyone's saying they lost hundreds. Most of the survivors are being shipped off to the spice mines of Kessal." Karly's voce was wooden," It's been vary nice talking with you Natty, but I rely must be going."
Back inside she sat in front of the data pics her brother and fiancée had made while they where at the Academy. *Hundreds dead? There where only a few hundred rebel forces to begin with.* Her fingers lightly caressed the pictures. *Most of the survivors are being taken to the spice mines? Even droids seldom lasted more than a year there.* Silent tears slid down her pale cheeks.
She shivered, pulling herself upright. *I must have fallen asleep.* She crossed back to the balcony, the sun was just beginning to set. She picked up the house plant. During the day a solitary white blossom had appeared. It smelled divine, she smiled to herself. *They are just fine, I'm positive.* Karly whispered to the plant, "Soon this war will be over. We will win back our democratic state. They will come back to me."
