A Strong Wind
Series: Super Paper Mario
Disclaimer: I don't own Super Paper Mario, but I wish I did. After the events of Super Paper Mario, so Spoiler Alert!
"So you would have destroyed all the worlds to avenge me?" Timpani asked, an eyebrow slightly cocked.
He shrugged. "If we couldn't have a perfect world, no one else could."
"Blumiere, that just isn't right." She sighed, but despite herself she snuggled closer to him, draping some of his cloak over her shoulders.
"Why not? Our own world betrayed us so deeply. How could another, or another after that, accept our love?"
"This world doesn't seem to mind." She stared at the horizon, his arm circling her waist. "Where are we?"
"I haven't the slightest, but does it matter?" The sun was setting, the tall grass blowing around them. It looked like another night spent sleeping under the stars.
"Aren't you a little curious about the people who live here?"
He grunted. "Not at all. I've grown tired of people, other than you of course."
"I haven't."
"Even after all we went through?"
"Blumiere, the Tribe of Darkness and the Ancients have clearly disbanded. How long will you hold onto this hatred towards the universe?" Timpani's face was full of concern. She was thrilled the events that unraveled from the Dark Prognostic had been reversed, and that she could once again be with Blumiere, but the idea of total seclusion did not fit into Timpani's idea of a perfect world with her love. Then again, he always had one good point: no one mattered as long as they were together. Yet after her travels with Mario and friends, Timpani learned to appreciate the warmth of friendship as well as love. The world really could be a confusing place.
"I'd rather not say."
She turned to him, forcing him to meet her eyes, which wasn't hard for Blumiere. He could stare into her cool green eyes forever. "Please try to let all those terrible events go. If you can't, I fear it may destroy you..."
He couldn't stand to see her in despair, and he pulled her into his chest. "I'll try. For you."
Burying her face into his suit, she smiled and slowly drifted off to sleep. Blumiere couldn't find such solace so easily that night, and spent the whole sleeping hours holding her. He knew Timpani was too kind hearted to close off the rest of the world as easily as he could. He felt she was even able to forgive his father for his horrendous deeds against their love, for that was the kind of beautiful person-both inside and out-she was. Swallowing hard, he decided he would have to open his heart a little further and try to coexist with the rest of the worlds. If Timpani was able enough to forgive him, why couldn't he forgive everyone else?
May this is it? The perfect world I promised her to find so long ago. But he had his doubts; after all, he thought the world they were born into was perfect at one point. He couldn't risk the chance of someone else's misguided opinions of love and happiness driving Timpani forcibly away from him, not again, not ever again.
