Second Chance
A/N: I really have no idea where this idea came from, but I really don't think there are enough Ahamo/Lavender stories out there. My muse is peculiar to say the least.

Ahamo remembered that time all too well. He'd held Lavender as she cried for hours in his arms. She hadn't even known she was pregnant and now the baby was gone, disappearing from their lives like the swirling wind. A life snuffed out before it was realized.

Lavender blamed herself, citing a million things she should have done differently. Perhaps if she would have rested when she first felt ill; or had not accepted the Duke of Illinova's invitation to his kingdom's independence day ball; or maybe if she had cancelled the advisors meeting as Ahamo had suggested…there were so many possibilities. She should have known, should have felt the presence of another life within her womb. But she hadn't and now she was being punished by Lurline for her negligence.

Ahamo knew it was pointless to contradict her, but he did it anyway. He assured her it wasn't her fault, that there was nothing she could have done differently, that sometimes things were just out of their hands. Eventually they found solace in each other's arms, her tears soaking his shirt and his arms instinctively tightening around her as he rubbed her back slowly.

Yes he remembered it all too well, but looking down at the bundle in his arms it seemed so distant a memory. His daughter stared up at him, brown eyes sparkling with the innocence of childhood. Her head full of dark hair was identical to her mother's who had assured him that the little girl's nose was all because of him. She was a perfect combination of all their best qualities without any of their flaws.

He glanced over his shoulder to make sure his wife was still sleeping, a slumber she had rightfully earned with 14 hours of labor. "Hello Azkadellia," he whispered, the name sounding so foreign on his tongue. Running his finger gently over her cheek, Ahamo had to assure himself that she was in fact real and not merely a figment of his overactive imagination.

She was real. She was theirs. She was the kingdom's newest princess and heir apparent. She was perfection. She was their second chance.
