So I had a lot running through my mind about the latest episode. And to keep my Nicknames 'verse bumping heads with canon, here's a new oneshot. Oddly, all of my Revolution fics are connected, now that I think about it. No Monroe and Mandy this time around, just Rachel and her reasoning for causing the Blackout.

I do not own Revolution.

Proud

Mathesons were supposed to be proud of their accomplishments. Family meant everything to them, and absolutely nothing could break that bond. Rachel was proud to be married into such a family. She had had a lovely daughter, whom she loved with all of her heart. Charlie was a fighter, and always would be. Then she became pregnant with Danny. Little by little, her life went to hell in a hand basket because of this. She couldn't blame her son, not her little boy. He couldn't help that his chances of survival were slim; that was all to blame on bad genetics.

Ben's involvement with Randall and the Department of Defense, though, that she could blame. If he hadn't figured out how to turn the damn lights off in the first place, this never would have happened. She would be at home with her kids, and her husband. Not feeling guilty about living in the lap of luxury.

Every mother did what she could to keep her children from harm. Unfortunately, what Rachel did just might have caused both of her children to die horrible, horrible deaths. She made a deal with Randall; if she got Ben to turn the lights off, not only would her baby survive and get the medical attention that he needed, but she would also help lead the world into what was now the Monroe Republic. Randall didn't have much of a plan, but his "friends in high places" surely did. All they needed was the people to help carry it out.

Rachel hadn't put much thought into it. She just knew that she wanted her baby boy to be safe. No matter what anyone else thought of her, she had to do this. For Ben, for Charlie, and most certainly for Danny. She had almost forgotten about her end of the deal until she was contacted on the day of the Blackout. Rachel Matheson wasn't proud of her actions on that day; she felt a piece of her die that day. She betrayed her family, and at what cost? To live in this luxurious building while her son was being beaten to make her talk?

She regretted leaving on those months after the Blackout. If she had just stayed in the village, maybe none of this would be happening…

And that's it for me. I know that IronAmerica has explained the bulk of this, but I couldn't help myself. You would think that we were joined at the head or something… You all know what to do!
