Les Sudistes Scene One:
John V. Jahn is seen sitting in a desk amongst other students who fit the cliche of detention kids in the dull and utterly white walls of "In-house Suspension" it is 26 minutes until detention is over ,and he has not finished his busywork in there leaving the In-house teacher frazzled and ready to lose his sanity any point.
Disgruntled Teacher: (singing) Look down, look down, always do what's right! Look down, look down, finish all this work.
You can't leave until it is all done!
Look down, look down, don't share your answers Moe!
(Teacher raps on Moe's desk with a ruler and shakes his head to show that Moe has been caught, taking up his paper and throwing it away)
You've all done wrong and though it seems unfair, look down, look down, and show all of your work!
I know you know that time is almost up, and I know you know I know, but look down, look down, DON'T SHARE YOUR ANSWERS JOE!
(snatches up Joe's paper and rips it to shreds)
When you (gestures to entire detention class) all leave, pick up your things, and turn in everything!
But please continue to look down, look down, but hurry it up!
Look down, look down, its almost time to go!
(Bell rings, ending the school day. Everyone gets up to leave, including John V. Jahn who is stopped by Disgruntled Teacher)
Disgruntled Teacher: Pick up all these papers (John V. Jahn picks all the papers up and prepares to go again but is stopped by disgruntled teacher again)(singing) Now student number twenty-one, detention is overand school is done, you know what that means.
John V. Jahn: (singing) Yes, it means I'm free.
Disgruntled Teacher: No. (Hands John V. Jahn a new detention slip, and beginning to sing again) Look to the left of your slip, you see, this piece of shame you'll hold until your make-up and busywork is done, student twenty-one.
John V. Jahn: (still singing, though a bit angrily) My name is John V. Jahn!
Disgruntled Teacher: (Also still singing) And I'm Mr. Colbert, do not forget my name, student twenty-one...
(John V. Jahn sighs, and exits the room leaving Mr. Colbert to talk to himself as he filed the busywork from the detentees/"future scum if the earth"'s)
