'Audrey, please don't do this. Please!'

'I'm sorry Nathan, I really am. I didn't want it to end this way. But it's the only way, Nathan. I'm sorry.'

Audrey gave him a sad smile and looked down. She stood on the edge of a cliff, the same one, in fact, where her first case took place in Haven. It all came back to her now; the sensation of helping a troubled person. She would miss it. But it the cost of continuing on like this was too great. She realized something else as well. This was just like before, when the chief had sacrificed himself for the town. Audrey thought she had understood his reasons earlier, but now it all made more sense.

'Audrey, please don't do this to me. We can figure something out. We can fix this! Audrey, please! Come down!' Nathan practically screamed the last words, tears now rolling down his face. 'I love you, Audrey.'

The last words came out as a sort of whisper, a final bargain.

'I know.' She smiled. 'I love you too. But this is the only way. It's the day of the Hunter, Nathan. I can't disappear. Not this time. I have to end this, once and for all.' The awful truth is that Nathan knows it. He knows that if she dies, the troubles will end. He knows it, but he doesn't want it to be true.

'Nathan, I have to do this. If I don't, I will keep coming back, again and again and again. It will never end. This makes the most sense. It will be different this time. This time, I'm not coming back. This time, it ends.'

'Audrey, you can't leave me. You can't.'

'You'll live, Nathan. Maybe you'll have trouble at first, but you'll live. Someday, you'll forget all about me. But I won't forget about you ever again. Thanks for the memories, Nathan. This time, there will be nothing to forget. Goodbye, and remember that I love you.'

We this, she took in a deep breath and fell over the edge.

Thanks for the memories.
