A/N: Written for the Indigo League Challenge, Route 2 task.

Learning from Blue

Blue had long since decided that Yellow was a strange kid. For one, he was small, despite his age. For another, he dressed oddly and never took off his hat. Even when it got in the way. After all, no-one could sneak around well with a hat that size, and yet Yellow insisted on keeping it on.

And then there was the way Yellow raised his Pokemon. He was kind to them, and there was no fault in that, but he was too kind. His Pokemon were too weak for a serious battle. And he wouldn't let them evolve either. He held them back, throttled them in love – and yet he still tried to learn how to fight, tried to learn from him.

Blue wasn't one to waste time, but there was something in Yellow that made him agree to train the other boy. He agreed to train him his way; agreed to try and make those little Pokemon as strong as they could be, without making them hurt others, without evolving them.

It was a near impossible task he'd set himself…but he'd agreed to do it. Why? He wasn't quite sure.

Maybe…it was straight up curiosity that drove him.
