Broken Dreams
Disclaimer: I do not own the canon characters; they belong to Bethesda Studios and any other respective owners. Based on the drabble prompt: "I had a bad dream again."
Word Count: 200
Lurching upright, Caddoc's breath tumbles out of his lips in ragged gasps as his massive chest heaves. His brown eyes widen significantly as he glances around camp in a frantic search.
Is she still…?
"Caddoc," E'lara calls from a distance away, and the male mercenary turns towards the sound of his Elven companion's voice. "Whatever is the matter?" she inquires, crouching down beside Caddoc before offering him her flask. "Did you see an Arackling Crawler?" the female elf jokes.
"That's not funny, E'lara!" Caddoc states, a chill starting to settle on his skin. "I had a bad dream again," he admits, casting his eyes downwards at the flickering flame.
"About an Arackling Crawler?"
"E'lara, enough!" Caddoc screams. "It was about her," he reveals, pain spilling into his voice.
"You know that wasn't your fault, Caddoc," E'lara comforts her friend, placing a hand on his shoulder.
"And yet that day plagues my mind every night. When I woke up and saw you were gone…"
"I'm not going anywhere; trust me. Get some sleep."
As Caddoc drifts to sleep, he can't help but reflect on the death of his past lover. He can't lose E'lara before he admits his feelings for her.
Author's Note: And there it is! My first Hunted: Demon's Forge story! I just recently started playing this game- I've only beaten the prologue- and I already really love playing it! Caddoc and E'lara are compelling characters, and their relationship with one another is so amazing! I'm getting a friends turned lovers vibe from them, but please don't spoil if I'm wrong! Anyway, I read somewhere that March is usually referred to as drabble month, so I have made it my goal to write as close to one drabble a day in March as possible. As I am typing this Author's Note on February 28th, I have already finished eleven double drabbles in only about four hours spread across three days. I hope you all enjoyed this story! As always, reviews are greatly appreciated. Have an amazing day, afternoon, or night, my dear readers! Until next time.
