The Death of Shenny
"Sheldon, you can't go in there. She's putting the finishing touches on her makeup!" Amy stopped her ex-boyfriend with a hand pressed against his chest.
"Please step aside, Amy Farrah Fowler, this will just take a moment, no longer, I assure you."
"The ceremony will start in just a few minutes. You can talk with her afterwards." She stared at him, still 'in love' with him on some level.
He sighed and then turned his head, as if seeing something, and exclaimed, "Oh, my God!"
Amy turned to see what would bring such an uncharacteristically Deity-oriented exclamation from him and he adroitly sidestepped her and opened the door and then closed and locked it behind him.
Penny was staring at her reflection in the mirror, applying the last bit of makeup and turned at his entrance, a bright smile breaking out over her face.
"You look beautiful, Penny. No other bride in the past, present or future will ever surpass your radiance."
"Aw, Sheldon, that's so sweet of you to say." She wondered what he wanted. He seemed unusually focused, even for Sheldon.
He stepped closer, never taking his eyes from hers and she unconsciously leaned forward.
Sheldon cupped her face and then leaned down and kissed her, a sweet and gentle kiss that grew into an intense union of lips.
"Goodbye, Penny." He turned on his heel and walked to the door, unlocked it and stepped out into the hallway, brushing past Missy, Bernadette and Amy, her bridesmaids.
"Do you Penny, take Leonard…"
'He kissed me. I can't believe that! Sheldon Lee Cooper kissed me. It was so sweet and I felt so warm and loved…'
She glanced at the guests seated in the pews of the small family church just down the road from where she'd grown up. She saw him sitting alone at the end of the second row of pews, looking down at his hands.
'Oh, Sheldon…' Her attention was drawn back to the minister's voice…
"…to have and to hold…"
Someone stood up and walked down the aisle of the church towards the doors. It was Sheldon. She saw it out of the corner of her eye. His shoulders were slumped forward as if carrying the weight of the world…
'Oh, Moon Pie…'
"…so long as you both shall live?"
"Penny? Penny?" Leonard's voice cut through her reverie.
Sheldon stumbled down the wooden steps of the small white clapboard church and walked slowly out into the parking lot. He took out his cell phone and Googled the local cab company.
He started to dial the number when he heard her voice, full of amusement and something else.
"Let's get out of here, Moon Pie. I just pissed off a lot of people."
