He made a face as a sloppy, wet texture crunched underneath his big, black boots. He didn't have to deal with the stuff often, but it was always too soon whenever Matrix saw snow. Only two Sprites knew he'd once loved snow, but they were long gone now. He'd never have another snowball fight with Bob or Dot. They'd never get out of these blasted games.

A cold, heavy force hit him in the back. Matrix whirled, bringing his gun to the ready - and instantly regretting it. AndrAla smiled back, blue fingernails waving before her open, and guiltily giggling, mouth.

Matrix forced himself to relax. AndrAla and Frisket were all he had left, and he'd never hurt either. He regretted even bringing his gun to point at her but had little time for remorse as Frisket, barking furiously, suddenly plowed into him.

Matrix landed on his back in snow while Frisket leapt around on top of him, much as he'd once done to Bob. Matrix's gun had fallen from his grip. The User would be coming soon, and yet . . . Yet he found himself laughing as he tossed his pup gently aside in another snowbank and threw snowballs at his woman.
