Soul Eater: Under The Black Moon

Prologue

Eden.

A simple word but one that has a resounding meaning to many of us.

To those of religious faith, Eden refers to the paradise garden where Adam and Eve, the first humans were brought into the world by the almighty. By God. It is where the snake slithered its words of poison into the ear of Eve and caused both she and Adam to be cast from paradise itself.

To some of us, the word Eden means a place where everything is perfect. While it may not be the paradise where life first bloomed under the guiding hand of some creator, it is something we yearn for. A place where we will forever be happy.

So what does 'Eden' mean to me?

Well isn't that the million dollar question?

For me there is no Eden. No paradise. How ironic that I shall forever be remembered for such a powerful word when I cannot believe in it myself. No, for me Eden is just a word. For me there is only the life I live, and death I deliver. The next battle is all I desire. It is simply a case of kill and move on.

That's all I believe in.

I suppose you could say, 'Death is my Eden.'

Excerpt from the Diaries of the Harbinger Vol. 1

Professor Franken Stein of Death Weapon Meister Academy. In a few short words? Insane, diabolical and unstoppable by any physical means. Hardly what one would consider to be desirable qualities in a perfect father, or indeed any father come to that. Yet against all the odds it seemed, Franken had sired a child.

It had quickly become public knowledge around the D.W.M.A. shortly after the defeat of the Kishin Asura. The newly made Grim Reaper, Death the Kid and the Death Scythe Spirit Albarn were the first to find out and were also the one's to find out that the Death Scythe Marie Mjonir was the woman to bear Stein's child. Needless to say everyone was, at first shocked, then ecstatic for the two Academy teachers.

Shortly following the happy announcement, Death the Kid was officially announced as his father's successor. On the same day, Soul 'Eater' Evans was named 'The Last Death Scythe' in commemoration of the new alliance between the D.W.M.A. and the witches. With this, a new peace came. Kishin still appeared of course, but for the newly christened Lord Death the Second and his friends, it seemed to be paradise.

This time became known as 'The Peace of the Black Moon'. A fitting title, even if it brought painful memories back to the surface for Maka Albarn whenever she heard it. A constant reminded of the cost that had occurred, of the price that Chrona had paid, when the world had been saved.

And the world kept on spinning, and peace reigned.

Nine months later, on the twenty first of December, the winter solstice, the longest night of the year, the child was born that would flip the world on its head.

Marie and Franken named him, their child, their baby boy, Samuel Franken Stein.

History however would remember him by another name.
