10 Excuses to Kiss
"Whim"
She pushed the papers across the table towards him. She was just turning to leave when he leapt up to grasp her shoulder. He leaned in, placing a tender kiss on her lips.
When he pulled away, she blinked a few times before opening her mouth to say, "W-what was that for?"
"Impulse."

"Christmas"
The Department chatted while the music blared in the background. He spotted her chatting with that scruffy detective across the room. He strode over to her, not caring who was watching. In one quick motion, he swooped down to capture her lips in a kiss.
He grinned as he pulled away. "Oh, sorry. I thought I there was a mistletoe."

"New Years"
He didn't need an excuse this time. When the countdown hit zero, he quickly pressed their lips together.

"Sweet"
He was tired. He didn't get any sleep the previous night. But when he walked into her office and saw her, he managed to crack a smile. He placed a quick, chaste kiss on her cheeks before one on her lips.
He smiled wearily. "Mm…just the sugar rush I needed."

"Quiet"
He rolled his eyes as she lectured and yelled at how messy his office was. His hand shot out to grab her, crushing their lips together just so she would shut up.

"Passion"
She wasn't expecting it. Although, she didn't expect any of the kisses he sprung on her, but all of them were tender, chaste kisses. This one was passionate, fervent, and almost desperate. She hung onto his shoulders, meeting his kiss with as much fervor as him.
Why such a kiss?
Because he wanted to.

"Lyrics"
He heard her singing softly to a song she was listened to on the radio. He had heard the same song earlier that day.
"Kiss me. Beneath the milky twilight, lead me, out on the moonlit floor, lift your open hand. Strike up the band and make the fireflies dance silver moon's sparkling. So kiss me."
So he did.

"Sleeping Beauty"
The lights were still on as he wandered through the precinct. He thought it was completely empty, but he found her asleep at her desk. She didn't stir when he gently shook her so he pressed a soft kiss to her forehead.

"Fountain"
They looked down the deep well. There was a gleam of silver and copper coins at the bottom. She fished out a penny from her pocket and held it up.
"Let's make a wish," she said.
She pressed her lips to one side of the penny while he leaned in to kiss the opposite side. With a smile, she held the penny to her heart before throwing it into the well.

"Reason"
With several final words, they kissed each other. The ceremony was complete. The matching gold bands glittered on their fingers.
He didn't have to create an excuse to kiss her anymore.
Because now, he could kiss her anytime he wanted.
A very quick story I whipped up. I had been thinking about what kinds of excuses people would give when they unexpectedly kiss someone. These are a few of the ones I came up with.
The song in "Lyrics" is "Kiss Me" by Sixpence None the Richer.
"Fountain" is based off of a story my friend told me. She and her boyfriend did the same thing with a coin when they were at Disneyland and threw the coin into that Snow White well. It was romantic and all until the well started singing. Hahaha.
Inspiration for "Reason" came from the movie Sweet Home Alabama, as evidenced by the final line.
That's it, and thanks for reading!
