My eyes open slightly to the sound of muffled cries of children coming from behind. The smell of rubbing alcohol fills my nostrils as I slowly sit up. I still felt lightheaded, and I couldn't remember anything...but I checked my surroundings, hoping that It would give me a clue as to what happened previously.
The walls were painted off-white and the floor was tiled. A small flatscreen television sat in the corner of the room, right next to an air conditioner and a somewhat large window. I look down to see that Im laying on a bed,my legs covered in a thin white sheet, IV's running down my arm. My idiotic brain finally told me that I was In a hospital.
And somehow I was one of the patients.
How the hell did I get in here? Did I jump off of a cliff or something? Maybe mauled by a bear? As soon as my mind started pacing, one of the nurses came into my room to check on me. She was short and plump with rosy cheeks and puffy, blonde hair, her glasses at the tip of her nose. Her smile lit up the whole room! "Oh! Your awake!" Her motherly voice implied. "How are you feeling sweetie? Have you felt any pain in your legs yet?" I look down at my legs, puzzled. I really could not remember anything... "Uh...no." I muttered. She looks at me somewhat concerned. "Are you...feeling alright? Do you remember...anything?" I stammered, looking at my legs, back at her, then my legs again. How did she know that I had loss of memory?-But my thoughts were soon interupted by a loud thump coming from the room ahead. The nurse turns her puffed face, distracted by the sound also. "Hmm...probably those chaotic children across the hallway again." Her now frustrated toned voice said. She looks at me, waiting for an answer. "...No..." Was all I managed to say.
She pushed her glasses at the bridge of her nose, her face now stern. "Hmm... It did come down pretty hard on you. Maybe you should lie down and rest again...It could help relieve any pain- *CRACK*. I dart my head to the the direction the sound came from, (to the right of my bed) A huge crack went all of the way down the wall. My eyes widen as I once again hear another *CRACK* pierce the ceiling.
What...the...hell...
My instincts told me to disconnect the IV's and make a run for it before the ceiling caves in, but the nurse was already turning off the machines, disconnecting the IV's and removing them from my arms. I was only wearing a patients gown, but at the time who really cared?! *RUMBLE*... Everything started shaking like an earthquake. I attempt to get up out of the bed, only to feel a sharp pain going to my legs. I fall to the ground, unable to walk. Why in gods name did they not put cast's on my legs if I couldnt walk!? But that was the least of my worries...for as soon as I turned to the window, the whole wall crumbled, falling to the ground.
Then everything came back to me...they were back. And this time, I was their target.
