Oz blinked. Go away.

"What's wrong Oz?" A familiar voice asked.

Oz quickly faked a smile. "Nothing Gil. Just thinking."

"Don't push yourself." Gilbert responded, his words rushed. Oz just smiled, and continued staring out the carriage window. Alice was still resting quietly on his shoulder, sleeping perfectly still. He shivered as she unconsciously adjusted her head, her long dark hair brushing against his check. He willed his heart to stop beating so hard, lest it might wake her up.

Maybe if I sleep just like her, I won't see them anymore. Oz closed his eyes, letting the darkness consume his mind. He let himself think nothing as he drifted off to sleep.

But his dreams did not give him any rest. Through his dreams he would always hear it - the haunting melody that tinkled from the gold pocket watch. That tune always tugged at a side of him hidden deep within, and filled him with nostalgia. And sadness. It was almost unbearable to hear it in this empty, black world.

But soon it was not completely black. Slowly, faint balls of golden light drifted around, drifting closer to him.

Oz was frozen in terror. No! Don't follow me here! Leave me alone! I don't want to be apart of any of this! He felt himself run aimlessly through his dream. Suddenly a vaguely familiar, icy and sickly sweet voice that sent chills down his spine cut through the darkness -

"You can not run, my love."

"Oz!"

Oz bolted awake. Alice was gently tugged at his sleeve.

"Oz, what's wrong?"

Oz smiled, and moved a strand of hair away from her face. "Nothing. Just a bad dream."

Alice blushed, then turned away and crossed her arms defiantly. " Well, as my manservant I can't have you suffering. We're here by the way. Seaweed head went on ahead."

Oz jumped down from the carriage and proceeded to hold out his hand for Alice. As she slowly stepped down, he suddenly spoke aloud, " You should wear dresses more often."

"What?" Alice said, now completely out of the carriage.

Oz ignored her. "You'd look really nice in mint green. Or a red tinted-black. To contrast your ey - OW!"

Oz bent over, clutching his shin. Alice's boots were sharp. "What was that for?"

Alice spoke somewhat angrily, while staring at the ground. "You're been acting weird lately, like your thinking of things like you won't be here any longer. As your master, I will not allow this sort of behavior!" She stormed off to find Gil.

Oz sat on the grass for several minutes, letting the cool breeze ruffle his unruly blond hair. He started up at the sky, lost in its azure expanse. He was trying not to stare at the golden light dancing around him.

He whispered quietly, " It's the truth, Alice."

Notes : Well, here it is, my first PH fanfic. I mean to write more chapters, but when that will happen, I don't know. I guess you could say this is kind of AU, not going to say why though, cause then that would spoil what I have planned for this fanfic. I hope you'll enjoy it.
