Her life, her security, all that she had ever known, all gone as surely as every unforgiving wave from the winter sea crashed against the icy shores of the land. She had nothing. Nothing at all, except for a single memory of a name, and a promise from long ago. To follow, she thought as she watched the snow fall into the bottomless Lake Black, or not to follow?
