This is the first time I did a Milo Murphy's Law fanfic. I have a bunch of ideas in store but this is the one, in my opinion, the sweetest one. Reviews for any improvement of my story would be really appreciated.
Also, this was originally meant to be a whole story, but I divided it in two parts.
It was a fine day at the Jefferson County Middle School. Milo, Melissa, Zack and their classmates were hearing an announcement in their classrom room.
Milo, Melissa are oldbies with this annual March announcment, while Zack is a newbie for his first annual event at the school.
"Heyya, Melissa." Zack slowly said his words, in order to get spoilers for whatever happening then. "So… look at the impression on your face, I know that you guys must know a thing about this announcement. I wonder if you…"
" '…could reveal anything so I can at least… prepared?'" Melissa interrupted, "Sorry, Zack, but as your best friend and Milo's best friend, I won't let you know anything until you figure it out yourself. Okay?" She then smiled at him. It could be a reassuring saying, or it was just she turned on sarcastic mode.
"Eh, fine then." Zack frowned, but at least he put a smile after that Melissa's smile.
The room began to quiet, as Principal Milder voice can be heard on the classroom megaphone.
Children, teachers. Welcome to the annual March event announcement. As you all know, this event will testing students' skill of accuracy, sharp, and also perfection to the project. But most importantly, this is a chance to let out your imagination and… have fun while doing it.
Every words Milder said made Melissa slowly from smiled to grinned excitedly. She had been waiting for this.
The Origami event…
Melissa almost let out her scream, but realised it would be kinda rule to yell in the quiet atmosphere like this.
From a boat to a small plane. From a building to an Effiel Tower, all the things the students could possibly imagine. There's no real competition in this event, just do your best from what you've learned in school, or outside like the Internet.
That's all for my announcement. Good day to teachers and students.
After the announcement, students had their lunch before they left the school. Melissa and Zack were walking to home while Melissa excitedly chat about the origami event.
"I'm pretty good at origami, for your information. Now, of course, Bradley and Amanda would attend in this event, but their origami weren't special as mine." Melissa said it happily to Zack.
"I'm pretty good at it, too!" Zack joined to Melissa's words, "I felt stressed a lot when I used to be in The Lumberzacks. Folding and cutting made me relaxed."
"So our loverboy here loves origami." Melissa jokingly said and Zack didn't find it funny, "Hey, how about we do this in pair. You know, you and me?" Zack blushed a bit, then shyly responsed, "Yeah, I'd love to. Let's call Milo to join too, you know, triangle work."
Just as Zack mentioned Milo, "Now you mention it, we haven't barely met Milo at school." Melissa added, "Yeah, I saw he was at school, but maybe I'm too excited about the event that I forgot the best friend I should've met everyday!"
Zack put a reassuring arm behind Melissa's left shoulder, "You're right. Let's apologize and have a good time do origami. Together as a trio!"
Melissa nodded and then she hugged Zack. It happened so fast that Zack couldn't even react anything. His face from blushed to a shocking surprise look, "You know, you're more than a friend to me. A brother. Thanks, Zack. Your kind words."
Zack stand in comfortable, let her have the moment, "Thank you too, Melissa." After that moment, the two then quickly ran to Milo's house.
They stand in front of the door. Melissa rang the doorbell, "Milo? We come here to see you today." The two then had a weird look when they saw Mrs. Murphy answered the door instead. That's weird. Usually Milo will say "Coming!" in a welcome voice, but not this time. Just Mrs. Murphy opened the door and smiled when saw her son's two best friends.
"Hi Mrs. Murphy" They simultaneously said, and Brigette opened her words, "Milo is in his room. You guys may come in."
They nodded in agreement and walked upstairs to reach to the door in front of Milo's room. But from a distance, they could hear Milo's voice. His voice… feels… not-Milo at all. Worried, a bit of frustated.
"Ugh! Why I can't do this. Not even a bit!" A table slam then heard with sobbing sounds,
"Oh no, this isn't right at all! Sobbing, a thing Milo would rarely do." They slowly reached in front of the door of Milo's room. Melissa knocked the door, "Milo? Are you there?!" Zack then joined, "Yeah dude, we haven't seen you in the school. We just want to-"
A voice from the room interrupted Zack, "Oh, it's you guys?" Milo then quickly cleaned out his tears from the face. "Come in."
Zack and Melissa opened the door, but before they can even look at Milo, their eyes saw a colorful, messy room. Paper everywhere, red, orange, blue, green,… then broken scissors. At least glue didn't fell apart. "You guys can sit. Careful with the broken scissors though.
The black-haired boy and the blue-eye girl sat on the room chairs. They couldn't say anything until realize something bad was happening.
"Milo?" – Melissa, about to asked Milo a few things.
"Yes, I'm listening, Melissa." Milo's face didn't even turn to her. He was busy doing something that Melissa hadn't known yet, and didn't want to know until Milo revealed himself.
"What's all this, Milo? These papers are for origami. I thought that you could dismiss all the Jefferson County origami events because of Murphy's Law?", Melissa said, her eyes then let out a confusing look.
Zack then whispered shockingly Melissa, "Wait, Milo can dismiss ALL the origami events?! Why didn't you tell me earlier?"
Melissa smiled a bit at Zack, "Well, at least my hug was real, Zack."
"Well, nothing guys. I took out the origami paper, prepared to give it Sara, and then Murphy's Law, you know. The… radio near… the pack I had the paper exploded and papers were tore apart… broken scissors…" Milo worriedly said but tried to hide the truth.
"And you can't hide the truth from me, Murphy!" Melissa gave Milo a warn, but then comfortably talked to her brown-eye friend, "Tell me, and tell Zack, what is happening? You know you couldn't help yourself if you took away the truth. Me and Zack here, we'll help you!"
Milo then real faced to Melissa and Zack, "Can you guys give me a group hug before I revealed? That would make me more comfortable to say."
"Of course, Milo." Melissa happily answered, "Hugs are a healthy expression of affection between friends, Milo."
"Okay, now you're just being ridiculous, Zack" Melissa's joke made the boys laughed, well, not Zack, but seeing Milo at least laughed made the hug more comfortable to join.
"Alright, I'll tell you." Milo sighed before he revealed, You know, the origami events has been a thing to schools in Danville, and the within Jefferson County, since I was in 4th grade. That's when I knew Melissa. She was in your position right now Zack, a newbie to the town. Were able to watch Melissa did origami is a great honour, Zack. She did it very well. There's no 100% perfection, no 100% accuracy. Her beautiful and light hands like an angle, the origami paper always listen to her
Melissa then blushed with the kind words Milo finally said to her hands. Her shy then disappeared when Milo continued, Since I was Melissa's best friend, I actually have a thing for this origami event as well. All the folding, cutting thing, herself feels relaxed, I could feel it too. The first year I joined, all the design, from the simple to beautiful design at the prohibition, were completely destroyed for no reason. Again, Murphy's Law. And without being asked by the teachers, I had no choice but to dismiss all the origami events.
Melissa and Zack could understand the story Milo had. Melissa, as Milo's best friend, didn't even know he was holding a story that not yet to be revealed until now. "So why do you even think of doing this again?", Melissa asked, but realised the words she said, Oh no, what words have I just opened to him.
"That's okay Melissa, I don't find it insulting when you asked me that. It's just… It's just…" His tear can be seen again, the afternoon light came from the window shine the stream of tear, "I really liked an origami, which looked like a crane, okay? I accidentally overlooked it on the Internet. I really liked to do one, but Murphy's Law kept me not to do it. Things just went from bad to worse. I don't blame my condition of course, but it's not fair. That's, at least the thing I want to… do…"
He then slammed his head on the table, sobbing, just like the sound Melissa and Zack heard before they entered the room. The two looked each other, felt just… disappointed. It's not about origami anymore. It's more than that. Sometimes, people just want to do things they like, but they can't because of their condition. It's no doubt Milo, besides the adventurous side of Murphy's Law, he's barely free from Murphy's Law when doing anything.
Melissa and Zack came closer to Milo, both shared each side and talked to their friend closer.
"Don't worry, Milo. Origami was the reason we're here. You can't do this by yourself. Even Melissa said that she at least needs a friend besides her, to make her do it easily." Zack pointed that out, made Milo's face at least left the table.
"Milo, without you, I can't do anything with origami paper. You were there when I searched how to do origamis, and I did it, nicely. But that wouldn't happen if you weren't there. Know why, Milo? Your motivations are always the words I'd love to hear."
Flashback time.
Milo and Melissa, after the annoucement from the principal of the primary school, Melissa seemed interested, and talked a whole about it while they were on their way home. But being pushed by Milo, to do what her like, she was disagree at first.
"Not sure if I can do it, Milo. I mean, there are lots of other ways to impress kids when I first move here."
"I know you can do it, Lissa." Milo put his hand on both of hers. "Even more, you'll do it perfectly. I saw you admired the designs a lot, and I think you may like doing it."
Though it's just a naïve thought from a nine-year-old boy, Milo's thought, actually, was logically. He raised a talent, began from someone's interest. And that someone is Melissa.
"I'll try. Hope Murphy's Law won't screw up things, for a time while I try."
And no, Murphy's Law still screwed up things.
But with Milo aside her, she felt prepared to do a very thing for her friend. And she did it perfectly. Melissa could feel relaxed after a Murphy's Law day with her best friend. Milo could feel the same as her did.
her first origami had been received lots of praise from teachers, well, in her age's ability.
Now with that flashback, Milo found himself in Melissa's position. Melissa's turn to motivate Milo to do origami. Together. With Zack. He's not alone. Why did he even forget his friends had already been there to help him? He can motivate for Melissa, now he can response Melissa's motivation with an agreement. That's what friends are for.
"I… I can actually do things with my friends. Even there's Murphy's Law, my friends will still be there." Milo murmured until he released his happy hug to Melissa and Zack, a group hug that made him smile. "Thanks guys! I don't know how I can live through this without you! I'm sorry, I was just-"
Heard the sorry word, Melissa interrupted, "There's no need to say sorry, Milo. And you can live through Murphy's Law, you're a positive boy, thought sometimes it's understandbly frustated. All you need is a couple of friends, and they will always here for you. Not only origami, everything you have wished to do, we can help you do it."
The words came out from Melissa were hard as steal. Zack put a hand on Melissa's shoulder and nodded in agreement. Milo could finally put an usual smile on his face.
"Come on, what nonsense were we just talking about. Let's help Milo do some origami cranes." Melissa cried loud. The trio sat surround the table. Milo sat in the middle, Melissa sat on his right and Zack on his left. "Now, let me instruct you, Milo." She held one arm around Milo's neck. Milo timidly grinned from that Melissa movement. She wanted to give Milo a closer look.
"Now, you fold the square into a triangle." Melissa instructed slowly but one of the family photos in Milo's room fell on the floor.
A sign of Murphy's Law, "Let me help cleaning it." – Zack.
"Don't worry anything, Milo. Murphy's Law won't interrupt you on your business as long as we're here.
And if it does, just don't give up." – Melissa.
Meanwhile, a time-travel vehicle had its landed at the school, this time, they didn't crash onto the building.
"Man, today's Renaissance mission was fun." – Dakota.
"Yeah right, put some paintings in the house and some into the garbage dump wasn't a hard job to do." Cavendish responded to his partner, "And I had a very thing!" Vinnie then revealed a beautiful yet precious painting, made Cavendish shocked.
"You're telling me that you stole a very painting of the humanity, the precious Mona Lisa?" Cavendish yelled, while Dakota just shrugged in realisement.
"Whoops. I guess that's it for the Lourve."
Cavendish facepalmed and continued, "Well, we've done our works here. So we'll be home in a few minutes."
"What home?" Dakota asked, "Yesterday, we were out of budget, and sir Phillips has finally made us homeless. Nowhere to live."
"Wow, you're right, Dakota. But until we could find a place to live in this era, let's find a place to think this through."
"But there's nobody in this era gonna help us. If only those Brick and Savannah aren't heartless, there won't be someone that's kind…"
Kind… Balthazar immediately thought of someone who could help them in the situation. A very young one…
"Let's at least find that kid's house and see if that helps." – Dakota – "Plus, we can see his face for a long time, since the last pistachio fight. I know the address of his house, the Murphy house."
"Wait a moment, how do you know the Murphy house address?" – Cavendish.
Dakota smirked, "You know, when that theory of your works."
