PURE

It wasn't something he would have wanted, but that really didn't matter. It wasn't about what one wanted, but what one can create from doing something.

Regulus sighed loudly, and stared into the mirror with a look of defeat. He needed to smile, but nothing would bring that smile upon his face. It was impossible to smile, knowing that any hope of living the life he wanted was now gone.

Today had been his wedding day.

"A day of much excitement," his mother had said.

"A day filled with joy!" his father had said.

"A day of triumph," his uncle and aunt had said.

"A day of grossness and disgustingness," Sirius had said, and though his words weren't real words, they were very much true in Regulus's mind.

Arranged marriages were common in the Black family. It was all about keeping the family pure of blood. Sometimes they arranged marriages between family members. Sometimes.

It was just his luck that he happened to fall victim to one of these types of arranged marriages.

Glancing past his own pitiful reflection, he glanced at his cousin – no, his wife. Her long blonde hair fell in curls down her back and she was sitting on the bed in barely any clothes. It made him feel sick.

"Cover yourself up," he muttered, looking away.

"I'm your wife now," she replied, with about as much enthusiasm as he had.

He turned to face her. "Narcissa," he said. "It's wrong. I don't care what they say, it's wrong."

"I know," she said. "But we must do our duty to our family. It's not about us anymore."

"How is it fair to sacrifice our own happiness just so that our family can stay pure?" Regulus asked, feeling annoyed. "Why does blood purity even matter?"

Narcissa gasped, and then frowned. "I don't want to ever hear you talking like that again. Merlin, you're starting to sound like the Blood-Traitor."

"Hm," Regulus replied. "Whatever."

"It's our wedding night," Narcissa said. "We must consummate our marriage."

Regulus felt physically sick as he stared at his new wife. Her too-skinny legs and a face that so horribly resembled his mother's.

"Yes," he replied almost robotically. His heart wasn't in it, but this was now his life and he needed to do what was expected of him.

He walked towards her.

He closed his eyes and his mind until every article of clothing was scattered on the floor, and Narcissa was whispering "Gravidita Revelio," while pointing her wand at her stomach.

The two watched in utter silence, waiting for the tip of Narcissa's wand to glow either a dark red or a bright green.

Waiting.

It felt like forever. Maybe even longer.

The tip of the wand began glowing.

Brighter, brighter.

It was green.

The Black line would remain pure.
