Note: This is my very first attempt at writing in this fandom. Just a little drabble for a challenge over at femslash100. I hope you'll enjoy.

Looking Back

Looking back, Sarah knew she was different.

Out of all the people that formed her circle of friends during her time at Burbank, she was the one who never knew who she really was. What she really did. Why she was really there. If Sarah thought about it – and she often did – she was the one person whose feelings towards her were genuine. She wasn't afraid of blowing a cover, of getting into trouble with the government, or of a team of Fulcrum assassins bursting through her bedroom window.

The countless bright, wide smiles that reached her eyes and left Sarah unable to resist smiling with her. The enthusiastic greetings when she walked into her house. The invitations to Thanksgiving and Christmas. The tight, affectionate hugs. The offer to be a part of the most important day in her life. The rare – but very much appreciated – girly talks. The tears when Sarah announced she was "moving away to be with her family".

It was all real. All genuine. The kind of raw, human emotions that were so rare in Sarah's life.

Maybe that's why Sarah cried too.

Or maybe, looking back, she realized she'd fallen in love with Ellie Bartowski.
