Shattered

Glass breaking. Memories fading away. Everything she ever knew, turning into the darkness of the void.

"I'm sorry."

She sat there, stunned. Her house, her room, her mother, turning into shards of glass and disappearing forever.

"What…is this?"

Her eyes stared at the piles and piles of lifeless mannequins, and at the broken building that was once her home.

She heard his knees falling onto the dirt floor.

"I am terribly sorry for deceiving you."

Her throat was raw from crying, but she wanted to know.

"Why?"

He flinched. "And for putting you through such hardship…"

She looked at him. He sounded like he was on the verge of tears.

"You mean, this was all just another part of my judgment?"

She let out a quiet breath. He looked so vulnerable, so broken.

"It hurts."

His eyes were brimming with tears and his teeth were clenched in pain.

"This is sorrow, isn't it?"

A single drop streaked down his face.

"Decim…" She whispered.

"I just wanted to know you better, to understand you better."

Her head was processing what he just said, and she looked down at his nails digging into the dirt.

"I really am sorry." He whispered brokenly.

His tears fell down one by one, soaking the ground beneath.

"This was the only way…that I could do this."

His head bowed down and his breath hitched, the drops of tears wetting his face. She watched him cry, speechless.

"I am…an arbiter."

His words made her eyes widen and she stood up.

"I…I-"

She walked towards him and her hands came up to gently wipe the tears off his face.

"It's okay now."

Her fingers brushed away the hair that was covering his eyes, and she kneeled in front of him.

"I'm sorry." He said again.

Her arms encircled his neck and she pulled him into a hug.

"You don't have to apologize."

She was now crying, her heart aching for him.

"But I…"

She embraced him tighter. "I get it."

He gasped, her words resonating in his mind, and closed his eyes. His arms wrapped around her and he let the emotions rack his entire body. His breath heaving as the uncontrollable flow of tears streamed down his face.

Their cries echoed off the walls of the damned. One human and one arbiter, their hearts aching for each other. Their reality making a gesture of sorrow and pain, but they held each other, facing it together.

"Everyone has feelings for someone. Even if they're a world away from me, there has to be someone, somewhere who cherishes them."

A/N- That wasn't the end, it was the start of a new beginning. I wave good-bye to Decim and Chiyuki, but I will see them again one day. Until then,

Sayonara.
