Northern Norway, early 1800s
Your future is bleak, your kingdom will splinter, your land will be cursed with unending winter. With blasts of cold will come dark art, and a ruler with a frozen heart! Then all will perish in snow and ice, unless you are freed with a sword sacrifice.
The King looked at the parchment paper. What did this mean? "Does this have anything to do with my daughter?" He asked Pabbie.
"We do not know for sure, but with the powers that she was born with, it is likely that she will fulfill the prophecy." He replied. The King looked concerningly at his wife. Was their baby girl really chosen to set off an eternal winter?
He turned back to Pabbie, "Is there anything we can do to prevent this?" He asked. Pabbie could only shake his head in response.
Tokyo, 1999
Nikoli smiled as the nurse handed him his newborn daughter. Kai was so tiny, just a small bundle of pale white skin and the prettiest black hair. Nikoli couldn't help but shed a tear. This was his daughter. She was the first girl born in generations. Kai was destined to be special. Nikoli was about to hand Kai to Ayume, when the child sneezed and sent little snowflakes into the air.
"Look at that," he said "snowflakes. I knew my daughter was special." Ayume gave her husband a confused look.
"Snowflakes? How could she make snowflakes? Nikoli, what is wrong with Kai?" She asked.
"There's nothing wrong with her, Ayume. Our daughter has a gift. A gift that hasn't appeared in centuries."
Arendal, Norway, Present day
Kai sighed as the plane touched the ground. She was not excited about moving to Norway, nor did she want to leave her friends back in Tokyo. Her father insisted that moving to Arendal would help Kai get in touch with her history.
"Papa, I really don't want to go, I like Tokyo, I like my friends." She said. Her father turned to kai.
"Kai, we're already in the airport, it's too late to change our minds. Besides, the move might help you learn about your gift." Kai scoffed.
"It's not a gift, papa. It's a curse. It's always been a curse and its part of the reason I don't want to move. What if my powers get stronger, papa? I can barely control them already; I don't want people to think I'm a freak or a monster." She turned around and started walking toward baggage claim. Her father walked after her.
"Kai, you're not a monster and you're not a freak. You have an incredible gift; you just need to learn to control it." Kai wanted to scream at her father. How can I control this?! No one else in the world can do what I can! You don't understand how hard it is to conceal my powers! I have to wear these gloves every day so I don't hurt anyone! Kai wished she could say her thoughts aloud, but she also didn't want to make a scene.
"I'm trying, papa." She said, "But it's really hard, no one else in the world has ever been able to what I can, so no one knows how to help me control it."
