A/N: I know this is going to be really weird because I haven't written anything with this character but I just had to write this. Sorry if ith doesn't make sense.
Disclaimer: I do not own The Hunger Games, Suzanne Collins does. I do not own "Safe and Sound", Taylor Swift does.
Lorina sat on the porch, in near dusk, strumming on her guitar. She wasn't quite sure what, and she couldn't recall the lyrics, but she knew it pretty well. Her imprisonment in the Capitol had cost her most of her memory. Essentially, all she could remember was her name, were she was from and this stupid song. Nothing more, nothing less. She continued strumming as she noticed a figure walking toward her house.
Haymitch Abernathy let himself in the gate and sat next Lorina. She continued strumming. He recognized the song immediately. "Whatcha playing?" he asked, the scent of liquor on his breath. Lorina was cautious in answering, of course she wouldn't remember him.
"I don't know." she answered in a barely audible whisper. "Do you?" she added. Although she couldn't remember him, she couldn't help but notice his fondness of her. Haymitch nodded.
"I remember tears streaming down your face, when I said I'll never let you go. When all those shadows almost killed your light." he sang with an almost longing. Lorina could tell by the look in the man's eyes that he was recalling a memory, and with the way he was looking at her she could tell it was with her. "I remember you said, don't leave me here alone, but all that's dead and gone and passed tonight." he continued. Suddenly, before she could stop her self she joined in the chorus, subconciously harmonizing with Haymitch.
"Just close your eyes, the sun is going down, you'll be alright, no one can hurt you now, come morning light, you and I'll be safe and sound."
Lorina dropped out of the next verse, being unable to remember it. Haymitch sang alone. "Don't you dare look out your window, darling everything's on fire. The war outside our door is raging on."
Streams of memories began flowing through Lorina's head. Scenes from the bombing of District 12. Her house catching fire. The mayor's house collapsing, with the entire family still inside. Her hurriedly running for the forest after Gale but soon getting lost. Before she could recognize what was happening she had been beamed up into a Capitol hovercraft and taken to the Captiol where she was tortured mercilessly.
"Hold onto this lullaby, even when the music's gone, gone." he continued. Again at the chorus both voices were intertwined, creating an indescribable sound. It was as if the voices were made for each other. Lorina knew the rest of the song. Next came the bridge, nothing too complicated but as they sang, her head filled with memories.
Her brother being reaped years ago. Haymitch promising to do everything he could to bring him home. Watching her brother die on TV. Haymitch being the only one able to comfort her. The countless nights, they both drank away their pain together. Their more sober nights, filled with the singing of this song and others like it. It all came back. Her eyes filled with tears.
With Lorina being too overcome with emotion to sing, Haymitch sang the last round of the chorus by himself. He wrapped his arms around her and held her close to his chest.
"Just close your eyes, you'll be alright, come morning light, you and I'll be safe and sound."
Lorina sat their sobbing, cradeled by Haymitch's strong arms. She didn't know how he did it but she was eternally grateful. He helped her remember.
A/N: So yeah, this was just something that I thought of while cleaning out my mom's car today. This probably sucked but please let me know what you think.
