I Am From

I am from sandy beaches in Texas with crystal clear blue water, sails so big they look as if they are clouds.

I am from snowy evenings in Indiana, snow so white it made my eyes hurt, air so cold skies so blue, you could see my breath.

I am from tree's so tall in Maryland they look as if they're giants.

I am from green hilly pastures in Pennsylvania that look as if they never end, lakes, boats, and fishing with my grandpa.

I am from sunny days, clear blue skies, mountains that never end in California it all looks like a fairy tale its all so perfect.

I am from sunny long days that are filled with hide and go seek,

water fights that get you so soaked you get sick for a week,

and long never ending parties where adults play poker,

teens are dancing in the living room to the loud pounding music,

While little kids run around the house playing tag.

I am from long brown curly hair like a waterfall,

pink full lips that look like a drawing,

big exotic brown eyes that put you in a trance,

and the skin color of a creamed coffee.

I am from "Swingy" a song my grandmother sang to me when she pushed me on the swing,

a white doctors coat telling you that your best friend, my grandma has died knowing that she'll always be remembered in your heart,

heads up 7up in the classroom hoping to pick the right person,

hop scotch a game that makes you feel so young ,

and playgrounds that are so big your afraid to go on the slide.

I am from green the color of grass at a park,

white the color of clouds so big they look as there cotton balls,

and red the color of an apple so shiny and color so pure.

I am from long novels that make you stay up the whole night reading them only wanting to know what happens next,

gruesome vampire books that make you cringe with the horrible details,

and romantic novels that make you sigh with happiness, and make you day dream.

I am from long days of playing sports the days so perfect that you play all day till you visit the emergency room for a sprained foot playing baseball,

or a nerve damaged knee from soccer when you fell to hard in the game,

a asthma attack on the basketball court after a winning game getting too excited, or a fractured finger for diving for a ball and jamming it, in volleyball.

I am from down the street of Wimbledon Place in Maryland,

across the city of Corpus Christi in Texas,

long ways, away from the city of L.A. in California.

I am from tall tree's that I can climb all day but hoping I wont fall,

big chocolate cookies that make your mouth water, with chocolates big enough to get a sugar high,

and cold ice cream that make you cool down after playing at the playground on a hot summer day.

I am from blue the color of the sky on a clear day,

Red the color of a sunset on a hot summer day

White the color of sandy beaches

These are the colors of my Puerto Rican flag.

I am from a place where Ravens roam, where Black, Silver and Purple are our colors, and school sprit is our thing.

I am from… one of the greatest things I have ever learned, crying because it hasn't been "just a little thing" when I have found out who made the other half of me, and realizing that I am from long brown eye lashes, huge exotic eyes, thick eyebrows, small ears, little itty bitty teeth (lol), big hands, 5'11, curly hair, fettuccini with chicken Alfredo, a soft voice with tender words and knowing that for the past 13 years its been more then just a little thing to me…it's been a huge thing.

I am from jumping rope at the school's "Jump Rope to help Cancer",

and bike rides during spring break, almost getting hit by a car,

getting a scare

I am from crushes that lasted hours,

likes that lasted days, and so called "loves" that lasted months

I am from memories that I can almost smell, photos I can see, everything is all in the back of my head, all my memory of where I am from.
