A Victim of Destiny
Consuming flames consuming men consumed with hatred.
Presumed dead, assumed the shunning, of the doom her baby.
The bloody war burned the land;
The verdant pastures becoming black sand.
Her husband killed by a desert man,
She pried the sword from his cold, dead hand.
For she was a victim of destiny.
A gentle mother forced to fight,
To save her child on that accursed night.
Chaos burning, evil yearning, to cause pain, biting, churning.
Everyone dead, the ground stained red, it seemed, for miles ahead.
Her horrible pain, her gruesome wounds,
The air oppressing her lungs, her face white-
She kept trying; she knew her end was soon,
But nothing would stop her; she would give her life.
Chaos, hate, blood, evil's breath,
Sadness, hotness, coldness, and death.
The baby cried, the people died, she tried and tried, a coldness sapped her inside.
But she kept going, and she kept showing that she would fight to the last before her child died.
But she was a victim of destiny.
Barely alive, at death's dark door,
Her tears hissed on the burning floor.
But she knew what she was fighting for,
She crawled through the ashes, and away from the war.
Deep into the forest she groped,
A place where there was a sliver of hope.
She found a tree with the face of a man.
"Save...my...child" she said.
Said the gentle tree "I shall do all I can".
And sap like a tear touched the forest bed.
"My child, I have not the strength to nurture thy babe,"
Said the Tree "for the evil of war makes me wither away."
Through the ash and the blood a sweet smile came.
"My body came from the earth, it will be earth all the same."
"As fertile soil my body will feed you." she did say.
The great Tree said "Child, 'tis not thy body that will save me this day.
Thy love for thy child hath given me life." he did say.
"The kindness of thy soul hath saved me today."
She kissed her small child;
He ceased to cry.
With her baby in her arms,
His mother died.
And so flowed the cruel tide of destiny.
From evil there came good.
From death there came life.
The great hero lived on
Through a Mother's sacrifice.
